From the manufacturer
The EOS M6 is an interchangeable-lens camera that puts advanced technologies like Dual Pixel CMOS AF with phase-detection in a compact and lightweight size. Ready at hand to help capture photos and videos the instant the moment happens, it focuses quickly and precisely to help ensure you catch the shot you want. The 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor helps ensure your results are clear, incredibly detailed and vibrantly colorful. Once you’ve captured your most precious memories, you can easily share them with friends, family and the world through built-in wireless connectivity including Wi-Fi1, NFC2 and Bluetooth3. Advanced technology and stunning image quality combine inside the stylish, highly portable EOS M6.
Fast & Accurate Dual Pixel CMOS AF
This highly advanced technology is equipped with advanced multi-pixel phase-detection that instantly analyzes the phase of select light wavelengths. By calculating the difference, the EOS M6 determines how to adjust the lens so the image is in focus. Available when using Live View on the LCD touchscreen, Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps ensure your results are sharp, keeps the time it takes to lock focus onto your subject to a minimum and smoothly maintains focus where you want it.
24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor
The EOS M6 camera features a 24.2 Megapixel (APS-C) sensor capable of capturing large image and movie files that are suitable for enlargements with sufficient resolution for significant trimming. Whether making poster-sized prints, zooming in on a particular detail or making Full HD movies, the EOS M6’s sensor is primed to deliver.
High-speed Continuous Shooting
To help you get multiple images of a fast-moving subject and ensure you capture the moment you want, the EOS M6 camera is capable of taking up to 7.0 frames per second (up to 9.0 fps with AF Lock). Whether you’re capturing an athlete scoring a goal or a toddler running after bubbles, the EOS M6 can take the shot and stay locked on thanks to its DIGIC 7 Image Processor.
DIGIC 7 Image Processor
The DIGIC 7 Image Processor powers the EOS M6 camera, providing high image quality and fast operation even in low light. When using high ISO settings, the improved noise reduction processing helps keep the image sharp and detailed in virtually any lighting situation. Enhanced tracking and detection capabilities help keep subjects clear and in focus throughout the action, with improved face tracking so your friend or family member remains the subject of the photo.
Full HD 60p
Incredibly realistic 1080p Full HD video is recorded at up to 60p with stereo sound in convenient MP4 format. Video is smooth and richly detailed even when played back on a large-screen HDTV via the camera’s HDMI output. The MP4 format’s small file size lets you fit more on a single memory card, and helps make downloading and sharing quick and easy.
Even when you hold the camera as steady as you can, some unintentional shaking is possible. To counter this, the EOS M6 camera features Combination IS, which uses the camera’s Digital IS with a compatible lens’s Optical IS to help lessen the chance of blur due to camera shake. The EOS M6 also features 5-axis Digital Image Stabilization4 when recording video, which digitally helps to minimize blur due to movement.
Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi technology and the Canon Camera Connect app1, the EOS M6 camera can transfer photos and videos to and from compatible devices, upload directly to various web services and more. Built-in NFC technology2 means it can connect directly to compatible devices by simply touching the NFC icon on the camera to the device.
Bluetooth3 pairing lets you easily connect to and remotely control the EOS M6 from compatible smartphones using the free Canon Camera Connect app1. You can also establish a direct Wi-Fi connection to use your phone as a viewfinder, and check and download previously captured photos and videos.
Tilt-type Touch Screen LCD
The EOS M6 camera has a large, high-resolution, 3.0” LCD monitor that tilts up 180° and down 45°, ideal for composing not only self portraits, but also for taking pictures at high and low angles with ease. Its touch screen is designed to be fast and easy to use for many operations, allowing accessible AF selection right on the panel.
Five Functional Dials
The Mode Dial lets you switch quickly to the picture mode that best matches what you’re shooting. The Exposure Compensation Dial allows fine-tuning of the overall brightness of the image to match your creative intent. The ergonomically positioned Quick Control and Main Dials, along with the comfortably-placed Controller Wheel on the back, are all customizable so the settings you use most are conveniently at your fingertips. A lever-type power switch makes turning the camera on and off as easy as flicking your thumb.
Expand Creative Opportunities
The EOS M6 camera is compatible with both EF-M lenses designed specifically for the EOS M series of digital cameras, as well as the full line of Canon’s EF and EF-S lenses5. This gives you access to a huge variety of lenses from prime to wide-angle that are respected by enthusiasts and professional photographers from around the world. Other compatible EOS accessories include Speedlite flashes, Speedlite Transmitters and even Macro Ring Lites, so you can be ready to get the shot no matter the lighting conditions.

I travel internationally at least once every year. In the past, I've taken along a digital body and a couple of lenses but that got old quickly--too much weight to lug around. However, smaller cameras do not produce high quality photos, except for the Fuji and Sony.
Then, along comes the EOS M5 and M6. I was reluctant to take the plunge due to slow-focusing issues I'd read about. I wanted the smallest possible camera but very high quality. Then, I read that the M6 has a nearly identical APS-C sensor to the new 80D - which has even better dynamic range than my 7D Mii. Then, I thought "but it doesn't have a viewfinder." Well, heck, I take photos all the time with my phone. So, I ordered the M6 with the 15-45 kit lens. I took many test photos. The camera is very easy to work with and I was pleased with the results. Compared to my previous Canon glass, M-lenses are tiny, but they're sharp. Plus, any small faults can be corrected in software. I don't really miss the viewfinder but there is one available to attach to the hot shoe. The controls are intuitive and the touchscreen is a joy to use. Manual exposure is easy to dial in quickly.
After using the camera for a couple of weeks, I ordered the M-22mm lens and the EOS lens adapter. I have a couple of older small kit lenses with longer zooms that work well on the M6. And I wanted the 22mm prime for night/low-light shots. The M lenses are so light and tiny they're super-easy to carry around. I'm leaving in a few weeks for Japan and Korea and I'm looking forward to putting this camera through its paces. Plus, it weighs only about one-fourth of my 7D with lens but is capable of similar high quality photographs.
Minus 1 star for a slightly lazy exposure mechanism (not critical) and the awful strap--sorry, I hate Canon straps (replaced with a Peak Design).
Much has been said about this camera in reviews already. It's light, quick to deploy, and has wireless and bluetooth functionality. I like the fact that it doesn't waste space on a built-in viewfinder. I only used live view on my DSLR anyway. (A viewfinder on a mirrorless camera is a contradiction in concept anyway.)
I take my camera to rough field locations, and only the years will tell how well the M6 will hold up. (First it felt wrong to take an expensive camera into rugged places, but I haven't regretted it once. What good is a camera if one couldn't bring it along? And the T2i held up well.) The M6 is rather sturdy and has at least some right-hand grip, although I would have preferred an even bigger grip. Only the LCD screen looks a bit fragile and prone to scratching. Although the M6 has a touch screen, the camera is loaded with mechanical buttons and dials. The ring around the power button moves. The exposure compensation dial looks cool, but I'm not planning on using it. These mechanical controls will become handy when working with gloves.
Not sure why they made the kit lens retractable. The 15-45mm focal range is a better match for my landscape and nature photography than the 18-55mm was. I often had trouble fitting the scene into a single frame, but rarely needed the maximum zoom.
The second photo I uploaded shows the small M6 with a giant LumoPro flash. I call it the Beauty and the Beast.
Now I just have to find a snug protective case for it. What good is a compact camera, if one doesn't have a compact bag for it?
