I ordered this charger as a spare for my Canon 70D, however, I ended up sending it back. There were subtle fit and finish issues that lead me to believe that it might not be an authentic Canon charger. It did not arrive in a Canon box, there were no instructions, and there was no warranty card. Unless you are buying items that were once part of a kit, any item that is listed as new should come in Canon packaging (Red and White boxes, or as of 2013 for some lenses, Black and Silver boxes), and depending on the item, with a holographic sticker on the package. Even Canon refurbished items come in a box with all of the appropriate manuals and warranty card (1 year on refurbished, 2013), its different than a retail box, but you know its a Canon product. I highly recommend viewing Canon's website on how to make sure a product is authentic when inspecting a potential Canon product purchase in person, or a product you've received from an online order.

Long story short, I contacted Amazon, they took with back without hassle, and I reordered using the Amazon listing that says 'by Canon'. It was a little more, but certainly much less than buying it at retail pricing.

The difference between this and a piece of trash? About $30. This does not work AT ALL, it just blinks and blinks and blinks and doesn't charge. I actually think that it ruined my camera battery. This is a counterfeit Canon product--DO NOT BUY.

Warning this is not a Canon brand and manufactured product. If you buy this item Canon will not honor any warranty! This is a counterfeit product. The one made by Canon is $52.26. This one is an LC brand LC-E6!

The product does not arrive in a canon box and arrived with the Canon name taped over on the front and back. I want it very clear I am not outright saying the product is counterfeit and will not without proof. All I am doing is stating the truth, as received, I have concerns. I neither encourage or discourage the purchase of this product. After more review, my concerns, not yet directed to Amazon are that the product I ordered said fulfilled by Amazon (but from Brotech), but when looking at the delivery I am taken to a product from the same company selling for $3.00 less and listed as mailing from China. A comparison to a real product makes it seem to be the real thing, but I suspect it is gray market and if so, that does not make it bad, but it should be sold as such because it is not warranted. I invite somebody from Brotech to comment, because this was mailed from you.

If I gave you this charger and one I got with my Canon 5D mark III, you could not tell them apart.
They both charge "smart" LP-E6 batteries, including Canon brand batteries. They both fail to charge "dumb" LP-E6 batteries from some third-party manufacturers.
I have owned this charger for seven months and have had zero issues with it.

I think these may be overruns from a manufacturer in China, or gray market, but they work just fine. If you need an instruction manual and a cardboard box, go ahead and pay an extra $40. Otherwise, don't let the negative reviews scare you off.

I received the charger with no packaging to accompany it. This immediate set off bells and whistles. I contacted Canon, and based on the description I gave, they determined it was most likely a counterfeit item. They advised me NOT to use it, as it could damage both battery and my camera and would void the warranty.

A little expensive for what it is but very reliable.
I have several spare chargers because (1) I can't risk being caught without one, (2) I tend to space them out and (3) I use them two at a time thanks to the battery grips I use on every camera.
However be aware that although it will recharge official Canon batteries in all the cases I have seen, some after market batteries will not be recognized by it when they are completely depleted, yet an dumb off-brand charger will be enough to raise them from the grave, at which point the Canon charger can perform its task.

I am not wed to getting genuine parts, but in my experience, battery chargers are worth it. The design and fit are usually better and Canon has nice chargers. I have two of these, one that I leave at home and one for my bag, so I am obviously sold on these. They are big and bulky, but if this is problem, you may need to get a smaller camera as well.
