Sure, there are cheaper, generic, lens caps. But sometimes you want the perfect original quality replacement for the thing you lost. And if you bought a T3i (or 4 or 5) with a 18-55mm lens kit, this is it. Exactly.

The main thing this lens cap has going for it over other (and cheaper) Canon snap on lens caps you might see is that you pinch it in the middle rather than around the outside, which is just easier and feels more secure.

If you're not sure if this will fit: you need to know your lens' filter diameter, which is the inside size of the ring at the front of the lens. On the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens that comes with the T3i you can see "⌀58mm" which indicates that 58mm filters, and this lens cap will work. If, for instance you purchased the a Canon with a 18-135mm lens kit, you'll read instead "⌀67mm" which means that you need a different lens cap.

I've used non-OEM center pinch caps (e.g., Marumi) for years because they are easier to install and remove than the side pinch caps Canon sold for decades. Plus, center pinch caps are easier to use with hoods. So I was glad Canon saw the light and I bought a couple of these logo emblazon caps. And, yes, they are better than the old OEM caps and work great. However, the Canon pinch mechanism is a little stiff and fussy to attach at first, but loosens up after a couple months. Now I'll have to replace all my old Canon caps...

This is a great replacement for an original, edge-pinch Canon lens cap. It clips on much more strongly, and does not pop off easily when bumped lightly. It can still be edge-pinched to release, which is great if your hands are in that habit, but the edge grips don't stand proud from the rest of the cap, unlike the original versions, which also makes it less likely they will be pressed by accident. However, the cap is much thicker than the original, and if you have specific dimensional requirements in your lens bag, that could be a bad surprise. The 'shoulder' of the lens cap, the part that doesn't fit inside the filter threads, is 8mm (5/16") thick. An original Canon edge-pinch cap is almost half that thick, at 5mm (just under 3/16").
If you don't have tight tolerances for lens storage, this cap is a great upgrade or replacement, and it's also very easy to remove when you have a hood mounted.

When these came out I was excited about them, but didn't want to pay this much for a cap. I ended up receiving three of them (one for each of my lenses) as a gift. I definitely would not want to go back to Canon's original caps again if I have the option. If you are looking to replace a lost cap, or just want to upgrade, these are very nice to have. I use this cap on my EF-S 18-135mm lens, and the fit is perfect!

What I like:
* Center squeeze allows for easy removal when using a lens hood
* Center squeeze prevents accidentally touching your lens glass (I used to do this all the time!)
* It is slightly thicker giving it more of a quality feel

What I don't like:
* Seems expensive to me for what it is, but I guess you have to keep in mind what it is protecting.

This is a good lens cap and it has a snug fit on my Canon L series lens. The center pinch release is great for releasing the cap when you have on a lens shade. My only reason for 4 stars is because I found the same cap on ebay for only $4. I ordered the same cap off of ebay for a back up and it is identical in design, logo & fit.

I actually like these MUCH better than the side pinch/grab lens caps. These make so much more sense, ergonomically speaking that is. I bought this lens cap for my 50mm f1.4 and it's a perfect fit. I only wish canon would make these lens caps available with the security string attached so I can stop loosing these lens caps. This is a great replacement cap, I can't say that it is better than any of the generic caps that I already have and I'm not sure what inspired me to purchase this one instead but, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I am not sure what lens you will be using this cap for but it fits any lens with a 58mm thread. Here is the list of lenses that fit this cap:
