I've used non-OEM center pinch caps (e.g., Marumi) for years because they are easier to install and remove than the side pinch caps Canon sold for decades. Plus, center pinch caps are easier to use with hoods. So I was glad Canon saw the light and I bought a couple of these logo emblazon caps. And, yes, they are better than the old OEM caps and work great. However, the Canon pinch mechanism is a little stiff and fussy to attach at first, but loosens up after a couple months. Now I'll have to replace all my old Canon caps...

If you have the canon 135mm with a lens hood like I do you will truly realize why you need this lens cap. Its nearly impossible to take off and put on the standard lens cap, but this one right here solves all the problems.

I really didn't pay much attention to lens caps until I jumped into DSLR video. I know many pro shooters are not fond of lens caps, preferring speed of run and shoot but still, I like to keep thousands of dollars of lens protected when not in use.

And its a good thing I did, because a few months ago after a long trip, late-night return, I grabbed my camera bag (Tamrac 5788 Evolution 8 Photo/Laptop Sling Backpack Bag (Black)) and tossed it to my shoulder anxious to get in the door. For the first time in my life, one of my lens, my favorite (135mm) went crashing to the ground in the dark because a side pouch was not secured.

#%@#%(#*@#%! At first glance, all looked okay. Upon further review inside and in the morning, the lens cap took a direct hit and broke. Not a single mark on the lens - pure luck of the fall.

Which led me to this quick, center pinch replacement. Totally converted now and have replaced all my caps to center-pinch Canon caps.

For one, with the video, I shoot with a teleprompter glass/hood. Reaching into the hood to grab the old caps (sometimes it sits here for days, so I cap them) - a pain to find and release. Pinch-caps, no problem.

Also, shooting with lens hoods (stills/videos) and now a large matte box (videos) is it SO much easier to reach into the center and pinch/pull.

All other things being equal, I have to say - I think these center-pinch caps even look better, they look more rugged (although probably not) and they look more serious.

Whatever your reason or your need, you won't be disappointed in these genuine Canon caps.

I prefer the older style pinch caps from Canon. This cap nice looking, I will admit. But, it's very thick and protrudes farther forward off the front of the lens than some other caps. I'm not in love with this cap but it does work.

Do not buy the cheaper lens caps. They fall off and even sometimes break the UV filters. That can be disaster. I nearly lost an expensive lens because the cheaper lens cap did not fit easily on the UV filter. The Canon is definitely worth the few dollars different.

My SLR did not come with this style of cap. It came with whatever version has the little side push buttons and not the big, easily accessible from chunky buttons on this. I looked at a lot of different styles, both Canon and knock offs, and finally decided on this one. I couldn't be more please. It is better than what came on my camera and I plan on replacing all of my other lens caps with these.

This is a perfectly designed lens cap.

I have replaced all of my old Canon lens cap with these new Canon lens caps. The pinch-cap design is a much better design. Once you buy this, you will want to throw out all of your old lens caps, as I have done.

PROS:
• It is easier to put on the lens.
• It stays on the lens more securely

CONS:
• It is not free.

I've gone through quite a few lens caps -- the original canon caps (with sides on the tabs), 3rd party caps (with the center squeeze like this) and others with a lens-leash.

I wasn't expecting it, but this lens cap is a serious improvement. A couple advantages are:

Thicker/taller - Compared to 3rd party caps, this one stands a bit taller, making it easier to grip from the sides (you can squeeze the edges or the center to release it)
Center-squeeze - One of the nicest benefits is that this makes it easy to attach/detach from a lens when using a lens hood. With the previous style, you wouldn't be able to have a lens hood attached and still be able to remove or attach the hood.
Quality - I've used Sigma, Rocketfish and other 3rd-party branded lens caps with a similar look, and the quality here (albeit a weird thing to say about a lens cap) is noticeable. I've had cheaper ones break on me, be hard to release/put on, be loose or just have other issues.

The only other difference I've noticed between these and the 3rd party ones are that some of the 3rd party ones allow for a "lens leash" to be attached (to keep the cap hanging from the lens so as not to lose it), but I'm more than happy to lose this benefit in place of the others gained.
