From the Back Cover
Very Clear and Precise - It explains all the features of the camera and does this in a very clear and precise way, giving a detailed run through of the camera functions and controls as well as the operation and options of the menu system - and it does this without assuming you are an expert photographer to begin with. This is an excellent book to help with getting to grips with your Canon, whether as a newcomer to the EOS world or upgrading from a previous version.

Simplifies without Technical Jargon! - Douglas Klostermann has the unique ability to explain in very readable, easy-to-follow directions how to operate every facet of the camera. This is definitely worth purchasing as a companion to the camera and the camera's manual.

A Pro Right There with You - If you want to get the camera up and running with the feeling of a pro right there with you then I would strongly recommend it. He walks you through setting the camera up and gives you his reasoning for the settings. He leaves the door open to change them based on your level of experience. After the basic settings tour Doug then gets down to the heart of this great camera: the custom settings and focus system. His explanation is first class and he explains how various custom settings are related to each other. All in all a great read. Camera in one hand and reader in the other and dig in.

Will Save You a Month on the Learning Curve - This book clearly and practically walks the reader through every step of setting up and using the camera. A wonderfully well-organized book, it explains every feature and setting on the camera with recommendations on optimal setup choices and the reasoning behind each recommendation. This is the lowest cost, highest value accessory I could have purchased.

A Must Have - This is the best camera manual I ever bought - incredibly clear and simple to understand. Laid out logically, easy to follow. It's more of a field guide that gives you answers at the drop of a dime. Buy this, look at the manual that comes with the camera and you'll see what I mean. Do I love this manual? Yes!

Personally I have passed through all possible photographer stages – from using father’s Polish Rolleiflex like two lenses reflex camera, Practica LLC received as a gift while graduating at grammar school, to Canon AT-1, EOS 5 to make black & white photos myself in light room and soon also color slides. As keen SLR photographer I waited on my step to digital world until Canon introduced EOS 300D, first SLR which was priced less then 1000€. Latter on I changed camera for EOS 30D.
Normally that I am curious. I want to learn new techniques of photography all the time. I want to broaden my knowledge and possibilities.
Possibilities like extreme ISO characteristics for low light conditions, quick and versatile sharpening … and last (and not least) robustness which gives you confidence on your traveling through different conditions.
That’s why I have hardly waited for a new Canon camera.
What about knowledge?
I am strong supporter of evolutionary principles. I learn from the past experiences but I am strongly aware that the new technology brings new features which maybe I do not know. Here the experiences can not help. They can remind you “what should be nice” but can not tell you that something can be done and how to this.
So the education is very important even for an amateur like me. And if your camera costs 1700€ I think that it is a must to add additional 10 USD for getting an excellent bank of knowledge. And this the Douglas book definitely is.
Do not consider it just as an expanded User Manual. The book main topics is not the explanation of camera’s features but simply covering three questions: What, Why and How.
The book leads the reader from simple camera buttons and menu presentation to detail explanation how a camera user can use all this features to improve his photography. And that is all philosophy behind.
There is a really big difference between my previous camera EOS 30D and EOS 7D Mark II. Douglas book helped me much to uncover new attractive features. Still I am reading it, always when I ask myself how to … Yes, e- book is convenient to be carried around. Just if I think on the original 500 pages paper manual!
I can not say that the “Canon 7D Mark II Experience - The Still Photography Guide to Operation and Image Creation with the Canon EOS 7D Mark II“ is the only good book covering Canon 7D Mark II. This would not be fair to other authors. But definitely it was the first one, it covers all my needs and it promises to be updated if new essential features occur with new software releases.
The 7D has amazing buffering capacity and is ideal for shooting action/wildlife photography--long after my T3i would have had me waiting to take another picture I am still shooting dozens of continuous high speed action shots of birds and wildlife with this camera. Along with that capacity come a whole range of autofocus modes and zone selections best suited for different purposes. This book has both a quick-look menu for setting all of the many menu options for a particular purpose and also walks the reader through all of these options in detail.
The only limitation when I initially received this was the format--this book is only available on the Kindle. While I enjoy reading novels electronically, I find it difficult to use guidebooks with figures in this format. When I commented on this in the discussion for this book, the author offered to provide the book as a PDF file. This extended the utility quite a bit for me, since I had the PDF printed and bound. I have now been thoroughly through this hard copy a couple of times and tabbed the key pages, which I find a lot easier than trying to digest in digital format. From that version, I will now probably bookmark the most important pages and points on the digital file as well, for easy access when I am traveling. As we have a Serengeti safari planned, the marked digital version of this will certainly be along for the ride, in case I have any questions regarding tweaking the settings on the camera.
Update - Even though I am still a huge fan of the book, I would have appreciated a stronger discussion of flash setup and the inclusion of a linked index.

I also like the fact that you can get a printable PDF version from his site and I find that an added bonus.
Well worth the price!
If you are coming on to the the 7D MkII from anything other than a 5D Mk3 you will probably find you need quite a bit more guidance on the AF system than you can get from the manual, this book is a good place to start.
