24.2 Megapixel (APS-C) CMOS Sensor

Equipped with a 24.2-million-pixel CMOS (APS-C) image sensor & DIGIC X Image Processor, the EOS R50 camera can capture images & videos with reduced noise, delivering clear, detailed results even in low light. Images look beautiful even when enlarged, with natural bokeh that smartphones can’t offer.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

Easily keep track of your subject with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II – a highly responsive system that covers up to approximately 100% x 100% of the picture area, breaking the image into up to 651 automatically-selected AF zones during Whole Area AF.

Automatic Subject Detection and Tracking

The EOS R50 camera can automatically select & track the subject, enabling photography that keeps them in focus with ease. Developed using Deep Learning Technology, subjects are detectable (1,2).
Continuous Shooting

Capture those can’t-miss moments with up to 12 frames per second continuous shooting using the Electronic First Curtain shutter mode, and up to 15 frames per second with Electronic Shutter mode.
Advanced A+ Assist

Experience the joy of creative photography with an expanded array of auto-compatible scenes. Advanced A+ Assist enables great imagery even in difficult settings such as night and backlit scenarios.

Vlogging Made Simple and Convenient

With video recording features such as 6K oversampled uncropped 4K movie at up to 30 fps, Full-HD High-frame rate movie recording at up to 120 fps, Dual Pixel CMOS AF tracking, and Movie for Close-up Demo Mode, the EOS R50 camera makes vlogging and video content creation simple and convenient.

The EOS R50 camera can continuously record video for up to 1 hour, allowing you to set up your video and keep your vlog, podcast, or other video project rolling without worrying about it stopping (3).

Movie for Close-Up Demos Mode

Quickly switch focus from the on-camera subject to an object that is presented towards the camera’s lens.

Vertical Movie Mode

Movie rotation information can be set during or after movie recording, allowing videos to be played in vertical composition when viewing on a phone.

Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD

Featuring a 3.0-inch, 1.62 million dot Clear View LCD II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD, the EOS R50 makes it easy to compose and shoot from any angle.

Precise Electronic Viewfinder

Equipped with a high-precision 0.39-inch OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) EVF with approx. 2.36 million dots and a 22mm eyepoint.

UVC Livestreaming

UVC/UAC compatibility allows the EOS R50 camera to be used as a web camera to stream live video in Full HD 30 fps fixed, without additional computer software, to applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, and similar on-line web conferencing software(4).

Wired and Wireless Communications

The EOS R50 camera supports both wired and wireless connections to your smartphone via its USB Type-C(4) port, built-in Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technology, making it easy to upload and share movies and photos to your favorite social networks.

Built-in Bluetooth Capability

Bluetooth pairing helps you connect the camera to compatible smart devices using the free Canon Camera Connect app. This low-energy wireless connection helps preserve battery life, while providing remote control of the camera. It also sends continuously updated GPS location data from your phone, letting you geotag what you've captured so you know precisely where you captured the photo.

Built-in Wi-Fi Capability

Enable wireless functions, such as remote live view, file viewing and transfer, by connecting to Wi-Fi quickly and seamlessly. Using the Canon Camera Connect app, you can also transfer files to your mobile device to browse and share on social media.

USB-C Connection

The EOS R50 camera can be connected to a computer or smartphone via USB-C(4). All Canon Camera Connect app features that can be used with Wi-Fi are now available when the camera and smartphone are connected via USB, using a compatible cable for your device.

I really like how this camera operates, it's fast and easy and takes terrific video and photos.
A nice upgrade from a prior cannon rebel DSLR.

Minor complaints:
You have to remove camera from tripod in order to access the battery or memory card door located at the bottom of the camera.

The overall size of the camera is quite small, this is no issue for casual use, but if you're a "pro" holding a camera for long periods you'll probably want a larger grip body and more external button controls.

This camera is a great performer, and offers a lot of value at this price point.

Look to expand your lens collection bade Don your needs, but the body of the camera is very compact compared to traditional DSLR body sizes.

The shotgun mic is pretty decent for a beginner but will likely be forgotten once a user grows their ability. Same with the grip, other options will likely be better platforms as someone is more comfortable with the camera and needs to expand to meet their needs.

Extra batteries will likely be a requirement or otherwise look into compact filming platform battery systems.

Super small and light, great for beginners and learners.

For the cost, its feature packed. Lens support may be lacking, but there's alot of 3rd party manual lenses that work well. The ef adapter is also an option for this.

I wanted an advanced camera with a good hand-feel (deep, so you can have full confidence in one-hand holding of the camera at any angle). Previously had the Canon T100/E4000D DSLR, which I liked, but I wanted more resolution and image quality.

The R50 came out earlier this year. It is mirrorless, so not a DSLR and thus no mirror flap, but also no optical VF (but excellent EVF). However, it has a nice simulated OVF mode (also found on some Olympus cameras). One thing to know about the OVF sim -- just like with real OVF, there is no instant review in the VF. And if you're in monochrome mode, the OVF will still be in color so you can forget you're in monochrome mode unless you look for a symbol in the VF.

Has a readable 2-axis electronic level (in EVF and LCD). Mechanical shutter (electronic first curtain) or silent electronic shutter. Good manual-focus features. Lots of smart features added since the T100 came out. And it's lighter than the T100 -- only 375g body + kit ens 130g = 505g

The kit lens is very good -- RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM. The sensor is sharp and so is this lens. But I am waiting for Canon to release an RF-S pancake prime. On the T100 I used their EF-S 24mm which was very good. I would expect Canon to release an RF-S 22mm prime, as they have (or had) a EF-M 22mm prime for their M50 cameras.

Anyway, hard to go wrong with this camera if you are going from a Canon APS-C DSLR to mirrorless. Recommended!
