From the Manufacturer
From the Manufacturer For the advanced photographer who wants exceptional quality, versatility, and control, the six-color Canon Pixma iP6000D Photo Printer is a powerful new tool. Take advantage of the Easy-Photoprint software to eliminate the frustrations of photo printing while empowering you to fix, sharpen, and enhance your photos. Using the large built-in 2.5-inch LCD and control panel, you can actually visualize the print process and fine-tune your images for better results, with or without a computer.
While most photo-editing software applications will brighten the entire image, Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 accurately detects the subject's face and adjusts the skin to the optimum tone. Brighten dark faces caused by bright backgrounds. Choose from one-click automatic to correct the entire image all at once, or manual to correct just a selected area.
|Before ||After |
Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 also lets you select and print any image on your PC, perfectly trim images, correct images using lab-quality retouching features, correct red-eye, smooth facial lines and skin tone, sharpen faces, remove blemishes, and print in a variety of sizes and layouts.
The printer's versatility is matched by its superior quality, achieving a resolution of up to 4,800 x 1,200 color dpi. Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a high-performance 1,536-nozzle print head that ejects consistent, prescribed-volume droplets as small as 2 picoliters. The results are fast prints and breathtaking detail on all your photos--including borderless prints up to 8.5 by 11 inches. Imagine a 4-by-6-inch borderless print that looks like a photo from the photo lab, in just seconds. With the convenience of a dual paper path system, you can keep photo paper in one tray and plain paper in the other, so you're always ready to print photos or documents--no paper switching required.
This printer can connect directly to select digital cameras. Learn more about PictBridge.

Top Customer Reviews
My old printer was a Dell (it came free with my laptop, and costs around $30 on places like ebay, so it's obviously cheap). This old printer constantly jammed and had only one function: print plain paper. Forget that, the ink (black) cost $30 to replace. I couldn't believe my eyes! $30 for a $30 dollar printer? I though to myself, I've got three options: buy the darn ink, buy the printer again that comes with the ink included for the same price, get a newer better printer.
And so I got the newer, better, pixma 6000d. I'm a small business owner and this is exactly what I need. The dual output system (1 cassette, and 1 normal feed), is absolutely critical for me, as I no longer have to switch paper depending on what I need to print. I now keep the normal printer paper in the cassette, and the labels in the feed switch. No more switching, no more time wasting, no more stress. All I have to do is push a button, and the switch is made for me.
THE INK. Here's the best part. I was stupid enough to buy 10 generic ink cartridges for $1.5 each. I thought, well, if they're that cheap, this printer will use them up real quick, even the one's that came with the printer (non-generic). Well, now I regret wasting those fifteen bucks (smirk). After printing hundreds of pages, labels, and even close to 150 photos, I BARELY MADE A DENT in the ink cartridges. I can't believe it! This is a time and cost saver all in one. It's perfect for a small/home business.
In addition, the printer is fast, almost never jams (and if it does it's b/c it's my fault), and has a spiffy LCD screed which is really useless for anything but direct (card to printer) photo printing.
The photo editing software that comes with this printer is all right. If you're buying this printer to get good photos, get some other software to do editing. Otherwise, the printer is all right when it comes to photos. It's nothing like the prints you'll get at your local photo store, but it's good enough for me. OR, maybe (it's true) I haven't fiddled around with the software and printer settings right in order to get good photos, or maybe the photo paper I use is wrong, in any case go read another review that deals with the photo aspect to get a better sense of it.
But from a home business standpoint, this printer is really great, a 5 out of 5, 10 out of 10, you name it.
I used to be an Epson man, but this lil' baby has changed my mind. I've owned 4 Epson 900's and a 1200 and now two of these Canons to date. All the Epsons died due to injet head clogging and I just got sick of tossing money down the drain and jumped ship with them.
So I got two Canons instead. One for my studio and one for the kids. The Canon PIXMA iP6000D Photo Printer is whisper quiet when it prints, (unlike the Epsons I've owned) prints out beautiful photos even on the plain paper setting (unlike the Epsons I've owned) and even has a built-in card reader that you can view, crop AND print photos directly from in a snap!
I really like the fact that it has 6 ink cartridges instead of three because it ultimately saves a lot of ink for you.
The software you install is cool too because it tells you and shows you visually how much ink is left in the cartridges which I love because you won't run out of ink the night before you're set to pitch a big presentation.
I have learned that ink takes a long time to drain out of the cartridge and sometimes even after the software has told me that the cartridge is out of ink, I can still print for a week or more!
Lastly it has an extra USB port on it's front allowing you to daisy-chain another peripheral to it which can come in handy now and then.
I highly recommend this printer whether you are a hobbyist, a business person or an artist (which is what I am)because it always has come through for me. Thanks Canon!
When it does print well, however, it prints very well, but what good is it if a quality print is a crapshoot with this thing? Perhaps I got a defective printer, but who would take back a printer you've had for 3 - 4 months, without a box? It seems today, although we pay less for technology, we also receive less in quality too.
