The Canon HS SYSTEM takes the frustration out of low light shooting. The system delivers clear, blur-free shots with all the ambiance intact, and frees you from the sometimes unwanted effects of using the flash. Beautiful low light shots are possible at both low and high ISO speeds, and the dynamic range is expanded to retain maximum detail in highlight and shadow areas.
The system is the result of two technologies brought together in a compact PowerShot. The first is the 12.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, which positions the light-receiving surface for optimal light reception. More light means clearer, blur-free images with plenty of detail and nuance, even in dark areas. Working together with the CMOS sensor to deliver the HS SYSTEM is Canon's advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor, which actively reduces noise and delivers high speed image processing.

Easily Turn Your Memories into Videos.
Movie Digest Mode records a short video clip right before shooting a still image and then combines one day's worth of clips into one video.
Putting together a video containing highlights from family vacations, important occasions and other special events is now easier than you might imagine. Using the Movie Digest Mode, you can have the camera automatically record a short video clip (up to approximately 4 seconds) every time you shoot a still image. The camera will then combine an entire day's worth of clips into a single video. No editing required Ð Movie Digest Mode does all the work, so you can sit back and enjoy your video!Add some Fun to Your Photos!
New scene modes, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome, add an artistic look to your photos.
Add some vintage nostalgia with Toy Camera Effect. Toy Camera Effect recreates this look by darkening the edges to make them appear is if they were photographed through a pinhole lens and adding contrast.
Monochrome lets you sway away from the usual black & white combination. Now you can choose from three single-toned effects: Black & White, Sepia or Blue to really give your photos the effect you're looking for.

My first indoor photos with the Canon 100HS produced similar results; OK pictures but not very crisp. When I started to experiment with the camera to see if I could improve the quality of the indoor photos I found that when the camera is set in the Auto mode all of the indoor photos are taken with an ISO setting of 400 or higher. If you take the camera out of Auto, set the camera to "P", and set the ISO at either 100 or 200, the sharpness of the photos is consistently greatly superior to what you get in the Auto mode (which automatically adjusts the camera to a high ISO setting). While I have not used the camera enough to determine if you can just set it in the P mode with an ISO setting of 100 or 200 and leave it there for all photos, both indoors and out, I suspect that you can. If you cannot do this, then I will end up using the "Auto" mode for outdoor use and the "P" mode for indoor use.
In any event, this camera takes much better photos indoors in the "P" mode and it is very easy to set up to use it this way. If I had to accept the indoor picture quality that results from the Auto mode, I think I would return the camera.
After experimenting with the camera, I cannot understand why Canon programmed the camera to shoot at such high ISO settings when so much crisper pictures are achieved with the lower ISO settings.
The other camera functions it came with, such as the miniature and fish eye effects, are pretty good. However, if your camera is switched to Auto mode, you cant use any of these fun features.
As for the video quality, it isn't so bad either, provided you have a good amount of light in the room/area you're in, otherwise your video will be really dark and indistinguishable.
As for the look of the camera itself, although its advertised as pink, its more of a pinkish-purple color.
I would recommend this camera to anyone who just wants to be able to take good pictures without having to change any settings or know anything about photography.
A little more than a year after purchase, the camera accidentally got turned on inside of it's case. Because the lens auto extends when powered on, this caused the lens to be pressed against the inside of the case. As a result, the lens became jammed and the screen gave the ever helpful message "Lens Read Error."
While it certainly isn't Canon's fault that the camera got turned on inside the case, given that pocket cameras are typically carried out and about, a little more durability would have been nice. Perhaps a sensing mechanism that would retract the lens if pressure was placed upon it could have prevented this.
Bought this as a gift for my wife. Chose this over other pocket point and shoot cameras because at the time it was the only one with a CMOS sensor instead of the standard CCD sensor. The CMOS sensor is the kind commonly found in DSLR cameras (the big cameras that photographers use). Because of this sensor it easily takes pictures nicer than many 14 and even 16 megapixel cameras. The optical zoom may not be much, but don't worry. Just make sure your subject is in the frame. Then zoom in or blow up the photo after it has been taken. You will be surprised how clear the image comes out.
Other great features include a switch on the top to quickly flip between auto and custom settings for scene, white balance, iso speed and other such settings. Another added bonus is the video recording button. No need to switch to video mode, just push the record button and the camera does the rest. The sound recorded during video is okay as it is mono due to only a single microphone, but the picture quality of the video is excellent.
Its small size makes it easy to slip into a pocket, though my wife typically carries it in her purse.
BTW, if you want a good case for this, get this leather one Canon PSC-55 Deluxe Leather Compact Case for SD430, SD500, SD550, SD600, SD630, SD700IS, SD800IS, SD850 IS, SD900,SD950IS & SD870IS 300 HS , 100 HS Canon Digital Cameras models. It's perfectly functional, beautiful, glove-like fit so your camera won't move around and get scratched. Keep in mind, it only has room for the camera and nothing else. The quality is unsurpassed compared to the canvas/fabric ones. And holy cow, it's dirt cheap!!
