This lens is very good for portraits and macro photography. Although this lens does not belong to Canon's top-of-the-line (L-USM), I am satisfied with the very nice background bokeh. I also own the RF 85mm F1.2, however, I carry this lighter and more compact lens more often.
The only drawback is that the autofocus is a little slower than with the 85mm F1.2. However, I do not think the delay is crucial in most cases.
Overall, this lens is more cost-effective than RF 85mm F1.2. I think the strength of Canon's RF system is that it has a number of fantastic and relatively affordable STM lenses in addition to first-rate L-USM lenses.

Amazing image quality. Background of subject is blurred and is satisfying. Macro works well too. Overall an excellent lens for me. I would say that this lens is more than enough whether you’re doing photography as a hobby or even doing some professional work.

I've had the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro for several years, and it's optically great but not ideal for my new R6. I don't like how long it is with the adapter, and its dated IS system is rather loud (and runs constantly on a mirrorless camera). It's also just a bit tight for my purposes and I wouldn't mind another stop of light.
This native-RF 85mm handles like a dream on my R6. It's lightweight and it balances well. The IS system is very effective and nearly silent. The focus motor, on the other hand, is pretty loud. But it works well enough, even in low light.
My main complaint with this lens is that it has a noticeable amount of pincushion distortion. It's easily corrected in in-body JPEGs or by your RAW processing software, but that (in principle) degrades the otherwise excellent sharpness of the image. But more than that, I feel like prime lenses at standard focal lengths aren't _supposed_ to have any significant distortion. That said, the funny part is I often prefer the uncorrected image--it makes faces look slimmer.
