Product Description

Werling & Sons have been a family-owned and operated business since 1886. They are devoted to supplying the finest quality canned meats at the best prices. Yoder’s Canned Bacon is fully cooked and ready to eat right out of the can. There are approximately 40 to 50 slices of bacon (equal to 2.5-3.5 of uncooked bacon) in every can. Yoder’s cooks their bacon prior to canning, removing all excess fat. It is then laid out on parchment paper, rolled and canned for freshness. This bacon is perfect in emergency and survival situations as it will supply you with the calories and proteins that your body needs. There are 60 calories and 5 grams of protein in each slice. You can eat it right out of the can, pop it into the microwave for a few seconds or warm it in a frying pan. Anyway you serve it, you still have tasty bacon.

This product is layers of precooked bacon on a wax paper like material. The bacon is a little on the thin side, but it is tasty as is, microwaved or warmed in a pan. I open the can, use what i need then place the remainder in a Ziplock and inside the fridge till needed.

The problem is the price. I've purchased several cases over the years, with my latest on 5/9/22. I paid $241.48. Nearly three years to the day later it's $100+ more, making it near $30 a can. No way.

Amazon's calculated cost ($20.00 / ounce) is INCORRECT! At $179.99 for 12 cans (full case) of Yoders Canned Bacon, it's $15.00 per can. At 9 ounce per can, that's $1.67 per ounce, much better than the mistaken $20 per ounce.

Each can has a lot of bacan and make's the $15 per can really worth it. I started one can to see what it's like. To make it easier to get it out of the can, open both ends, remove the top lid, and push on the opened bottom "lid" of the can to push the packaged bacon out enough to pull it out. Each layer of waxed paper has many slices of reasonably lean pre-cooked bacon. Even thought it's 9 ounces, it's still a lot of bacon because they remove a lot of fat in the precooking. I'd guess I'd have to purchase and cook about 4 pounds of fresh bacon from the store to get enough bacon equal to what is in one 9 ounce can of Yoders Bacon. So far we consumed only about 18 slices of Yoders bacon and there are about 30 or so slices remain in the refrigerator.

The taste is fairly good considering it can be stored long term. It's pre-cooked evenly, no burned parts and no uncooked fat - I wish I could cook bacon that well! Yoder's bacon is easy to heat in the microwave to eat from a bowl or can be heated when cut up and mixed into canned beans. Both taste good and make it tempting to use up the emergency food for everyday food.

I purchased the Yoders 12 can for emergency food and for backup food for times when food from the store runs out and nobody wants to make a special trip to the store. The long shelf life make this product much better that what I've found at many local stores I've shopped at.

The 12-can package arrived in perfect condition, none of the cans were dented. The case was packed in a box with air-filled plastic. The large air bubbles can easily be deflated and discarded and the box easily folded and put in recycle items.

How do they get all of that bacon in a small can. I know 9 oz does not sound like a lot but trust me...there is a lot of bacon inside of this can. Although it does not feel the best on the hands when trying to get a small size pig out of a tin can you can make the process a lot more welcoming by opening up both sides of the can and push out the bacon wrap with a piece of plastic saran wrap or some plastic throw away gloves. It comes in for or 5 separate wax paper wrappings. I just take one wrap and stow the extra wraps in a mason (wide-mouth jar with a lid). Since it appears somewhat pre-cooked a lot of the bacon fat is already gone so your cooking time is basically cut in half. I like to micro-wave my bacon. This canned bacon cooks in less than 2 minutes in the micro-wave and I use very little paper towels. The bacon is thin (not thick) once cooked. However the taste is amazing and clean up is fast and easy. We like to place a little bacon on our hamburgers and this thin bacon is great to break up into crums into a tossed salad. It also added tremendous flavor to our baked potatoes and potatoe salad. For those preppers out there...THIS IS A MUST!!! Be sure to purchase in bulk to save the most.

I ordered 2 cans of this bacon 6 years ago. Opened my first can to see how well it lasted after 6 years. I am happy to say that the bacon was delicious and smelled great. I did not count the strips, but I'm sure that the weight was there. Straight out of the can the bacon was tasty and the texture was normal. Lots of bacon grease on the wax paper that the bacon is rolled up in. In a survival situation I'll be happy to use that grease in many different ways. I tried re-frying the bacon in a skillet, and got very little grease out of the meat, so these are fully cooked out of the can. The downside is the up front cost, but I feel it is totally worth it for the extra protean and flavoring it will add to my meal preps. JUST PURCHASED A FULL CASE. Label says good for 10 years.

I was horribly disappointed that my six pack of cans I ordered were crushed when the arrived, I have heard amazing feedback about this product but the shelf life is compromised. I would like to order more with a guarantee that they would arrive intact!.

This stuff is quite good -- better tasting than the boxed pre-cooked bacon that's available. It's also very convenient -- I fix the kids' breakfasts each morning and it's easy to pop in a couple slices in the microwave to heat -- about 15 seconds.
Each can contains about 50 full pieces, much more than I would have guessed. I open a can and it lasts several weeks (at four pieces a day). (I store the extra in Tupperware in the fridge.) It's probably more expensive than raw bacon, but for the convenience -- and for emergency storage, it can't be beat.

I stored a previous batch I bought in 2011. I have 2 cans left to be used. This stuff tends to be in high demand and low supply. It is good quality and the taste is pretty good. The quality does degrade over time. The case of 12 arrived without damage. Beware that Amazon limits returns on food now. I've had problems with other orders from severely damaged cans.

Hopefully the price will go down when demand subsides. Overall, the price limits how much I buy and store.
