One of my favorite things about this story is that they were friends in the beginning, not enemies. This really stood out because anyone who reads these types of stories knows they are mostly enemies to lovers.
I also like how the parents were more present in this book. Being aware and involved in the family. Plus they were both out of the house and living on their own. These may seem like little nuances but added all up helped to create a vibrant background that really sucked me in.
This was a quick read that I really enjoyed.
This book was a pretty quick read.
Going into this book I expected Chase to have done something terrible for him to be coming back to make amends after 4 years, but I felt a little let down with what the reason was, it was a little anti climatic for me.
Piper was a little too much of a pushover for me, I wanted her to stand up for herself more and I liked the fact Chase kept trying to get her to do it.
I loved the fact this was a dual pov book, I always enjoy getting an insight into both characters opinions, feelings and thought process.
I hated the fact this story just ended, there was no closure and we had no idea what happened with her father. I felt like the story was cut off at the knees.
“I don't know what came over me. It's like he's covered in magic dust and when I inhale I can't think clearly.”
“When you do something you're not suppose to, the last thing you need is the temptation to do it again.”
“Sunday is the slowest day in the history of my life... when you don't want to be somewhere, that's when time slows down. It's almost as though it knows how much you want out of the moment and it punishes you by forcing you to stay in it even longer.”
A sizzling and sensual love story between young adults who met as teenagers when their parents established a relationship, although the weak approval seeking daughter and a rich controlling father are the nucleus of the problem. Father was successful in threatening and scared away his lover's son as a college student, but it is years later, and father still doesn't want his potential step-son around his adult daughter. Secrets, conflict, and undeniable chemistry swirl throughout this sensual yet sweet romance.
There was absolutely zero depth to the characters or the story line. The plot was cliche after cliche, completely predictable and boring. The character dynamic fell flat and there was very little development. They had little personality, no opinions or backbones what so ever and I found it extremely hard to try and connect with them. In the end, I couldn't. I never cared for them and found everything to be immature and basic.
Formatting wise, Can't Stay Away needs a complete overhaul. From broken paragraphs to chapter breaks, incomplete sentencing and incorrect punctuation, every one of these instances took me farther and farther out of a story that was already struggling to keep my attention.
The writing style felt amateur. Sentences were disjointed and choppy, and in a lot of cases didn't appear to read as how someone would say them real life. Some paragraphs either ended early or dragged on once the thought or moment was finished. Then the male POV seemed rather feminine. I get it, the author is a woman, but maybe stick to a female POV or rework the male portion to come across stronger.
I liked the idea of this book being forbidden and the risks involved, but couldn't connect or honestly care for the characters or their situation. It was simple and in my opinion lacked depth and finesse. If this is your kind of book or you like the authors style, by all means tell me I'm wrong but personally, this just didn't work for me.
