Canto de la Monarca: Mujeres en Mexico
Music commissioned by pianist Ana Cervantes to 16 composers of six countries --Brazil, Colombia, Great Britain, Mexico, the US, and Spain-- inspired by outstanding women in Mexico's cultural, social, and political history. Cervantes chose the Monarch butterfly as the emblem for this project because it is a potent symbol for tenacity and valour in a seemingly fragile body.
... a very high musical level ... above all, with the skilful and suggestive interpretation of Ana Cervantes, of music which ... reveals the most relevant part of these commissions to such a diverse group of composers: absolute creative liberty ... in fact, the freedom of the butterfly --El Universal, Mexico: Luis Pérez Santoja, in the cultural supplement Confabulario.
