This music is worth owning and listening but certainly not at the price tag of $799. Recently I unearthed a LP in a pretty decent shape at the local Goodwill store for mere $0.25. The sleeve was somewhat damaged, but inside was a barely played record. Apart from Milva's fantastic voice and interpretation, I have to add a comment about excellent orchestral arrangements and production.
The music that accompanies Milva's impeccable singing are so good that in some cases surpass the original. I suppose, the modern approach to arranging including more defined bass and rhythm section and a combination of instruments that sound so "Italian" contributes to an extremely positive impression.

Famous italian singer's take on Edith Piaf songbook and it works very well as both share same approach to music - makes no difference that Piaf was spirit of Paris and Milva 100% passionate italian, both are theatrical and mannered in a way so it makes sense. Of all the people who covered Piaf, this tribute sounds the best because while others simply covered her note by note (see Mirelle Mathieux) or turned songs upside down,Milva sings this music with careful respect but still sounding like herself only.
Milva has very appealing, deep voice and it's a pleasure to listen, her singing style closely following older italian bel canto tradition and yes,she might be one of the best singers coming from Italy, country already rich with excellent voices. She has rich and varied discography absolutely worth investigation and appears lady was not concerned much about commercial appeal, recording albums with different themes (Kurt Weill, folk songs, war songs, theatre, tango) and this shows artist always curious to learn and stretch into new territories.
Very good.

Lovely Italian rendition of Piaf's songs. Full of energy. Milva's voice is rounder and less raspy than Piaf's. The melancholic side of the songs remains quintessentially French.

Milva's voice is as great on this album as it is on her other album that I have - "Ich Hab' Keine Angst".
The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is that the songs themselves are not as good as those on "Ich Hab' Keine Angst" which were written by a guy named Vangelis who I had never heard of before and haven't since.
Nevertheless, I highly recommend "Canzoni di Edith Piaf".
