Before I start rating this game, let me first say I got into the games a few months ago after a friend made the suggestion.

I have played the first game, third game and now the fourth game. While I kind of played the second game it was hard to get into.

Overall I would have to say Devil May Cry 4 has been my favorite. It has a lot of the same mechanics as the third game but also some new unique mechanics depending of who you play as. For Dante they included a feature that allows you to change his "style" on the fly from Trickster, Swordmaster, Royal Guard and Gunslinger with the push of a button on the D-pad. They also allowed Dante to use Darkslayer (Vergil's style in the third game) once he had Yamato.

The part of this game I loved most was the new character, Nero. Nero was by far the one of the biggest parts that got me to play this game. Most of the story and gameplay focuses on Nero as the main character and gives him the unique Devil Bringer.

By far one of the greatest stories I've seen in a video game and always keeping you on the edge of your seat. The characters are fleshed out to the point where you can relate to them, their struggles and their emotions. The graphics are fantastic and controls are easy to learn. Ranking up the style gauge is easier in Devil May Cry 4 than it was in the previous games but not brokenly easy. Fantastic game from start to finish. Incredible soundtrack and I kept cranking up the volume just for the music a lot of the time (despite how angry my neighbors at the apartment would get with me).

I'm a little new-ish to the devil may cry series, my brother got DMC 3 and I thought it was quite hilarious, the gameplay was awesome but i never played it much (pc version, obviously a console port and i'm not too fond of those for performance reasons and controls.) but i rather liked it, and my 360 needed a few more titles so i bought this alongside Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for a few bucks. i gotta say though, its now my absolute favorite game ever! it wasn't as funny as dmc3, bit more of a serious storyline i guess, didn't really understand the intro video where nero is fighting the scarecrows or whatever those bug filled human shaped sacks are called, however.. the fast paced hack and slash action mixed with the intriguing puzzles and graphics just completely took me. i haven't gotten through it just yet, but from how much i've played i can tell you that it is very much worth trying out, especially for the low price i got it for. i even liked it so much as to buy a devil bringer and red queen (Nero's arm and sword) off of xstreet on second life for my avatar :D

While not holding a candle to the ultimate romp of badassery that Devil May Cry 3 delivered, DMC 4 is by no means a dead fish. In fact, I found myself comparing this game to the third one alot as I traversed the demon infested castle's and forest's of whatever world the story is set in, and I kept coming to the same conclusion. Whatever the mechanic is, it's done well, but not as well (or as laughably over the top) as DMC 3. Here's the thing though, it's still great. And if you are a fan of the DMC series or just action/puzzle/platform/beat-em ups in general you are going to like this. Just buy the damn game, it's great and probably isn't more then ten bucks with shipping included. You'll have fun with it and won't regret your purchase... unless you're a jerk-ass of course.

After the reboot of the DMC series released, everyone was going on about how much better the older ones where. I heard the combat was better, the main characters where better etc. I never played the reboot and I wanted to see if I liked the DMC games, so i bought DMC 4 to see how things where, and because it was cheap. And I was displeased with this game. The combat is kind of iffy at best; when you buy a combo, it hardly explains how to perform the combo. The combat also feels very slow and slugish, and the story is uninteresting. The characters feel shallow. It was a chore to get through this game because of all it's down falls. I wanted to finish it to see if it would improve at any point but it never did and also to give it a fair review. I recommend this only to fans of the series, because I doubt anyone who is not a fan of the series will like it.

Well I am new to the DMC series and so far all I have to say is that I love it! DMC4 has wonderful graphics, good sound quality and great voice acting. The starting controls are simple and graduate to more complex moves...I have yet to master some. The camera views are something I'm not use to, throughout the game there are times where you cannot move the angle and it threw me off a bit. After a while of playing the "odd" angles gave the game a movie quality. This game is similar to Ninja Gaiden so if you like that style then this will be just as fun.

In my opinion, this game perfected the fighting system for this franchise. The story was light, and the characters were incredibly under developed, but the freaking game play is fantastic. If they had stuck to this scheme and done some major overhauls to the characters and story lines rather than what them did with "DMC" this franchise would've been headed way up on my list of favorites. This one gets a five star rating just because of how it plays. They really nailed that part of this game.

By the fourth installment, I thing everyone should have the picture by now. DMC is DMC and can never be anything else. Dark castles, over the top cut scenes, and the best action game controls ever.

BOTTOM LINE:
No need for an extensive review .... if you like DMC and DMC 3, then this game is for you. If you didn't like those games, maybe COD or Gears would be more up your alley.
