Editorial Reviews

Review

“I’ve been a big fan of the Tennyson Hardwick series since CASANEGRA—and Ten is back and better than ever. FROM CAPE TOWN WITH LOVE has something for everyone: the trademark sex and sizzle, and a nod to James Bond that makes this a high-octane thrill ride. Underwood, Due and Barnes don’t disappoint. If you love great fiction penned by superb writers and brilliant storytellers, get onboard!”

--Eric Jerome Dickey, New York Times bestselling author of Resurrecting Midnight and Dying for Revenge

“Bold, sexy, and engaging, FROM CAPE TOWN WITH LOVE is an amazing novel penned by extremely talented storytellers! Tennyson Hardwick continues to be one of the most superb characters in contemporary literature.”

--Zane, New York Times bestselling author of TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART, executive producer and screenwriter, Cinemax Original Series "Zane's Sex Chronicles"

"Heart-stopping and crazy sexy, FROM CAPE TOWN WITH LOVE will keep your pulse pounding through the long night. Tennyson Hardwick is a hero for the 21st Century. Easy Rawlins, say hello to James Bond!"

--Paul Levine, author of ILLEGAL

Suspenseful, exhilarating and sexy. From Cape Town with Love will leave you on the edge of your seat as once again Tennyson Hardwick has found himself in another mess. This page turner will have you holding your breathe as the intoxicating actor/bodyguard Ten deals with love, family, work and his own mortality.

If ever there was a book made for the big screen, this is it. The trio of authors do an excellent job helping us to visualize the beauty of South Africa, experience the roller coaster of emotions from the characters all while reminding us that everyone is vulnerable. Although reading Casanegra and In the Night of the Heat is not required, I strongly encourage doing so in order to fully appreciate the authors development of the characters.

It has been a pleasure taking these adventures with Tennyson Hardwick and I look forward to more.

It has been said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Someone clearly has never told Tennyson Hardwick this because from the moment he steps foot on the soil of South Africa -- majestic, beautiful and the place where the rich and famous pay mighty to get as close to God's beauty on earth as possible -- the hero we all love to love finds out just where his good intentions take him. He's there to win back the love of his life, the only woman who managed to tame the heart of the gigolo turned actor turned private detective. It's the latter that drove April away after she watched him solve two high-profile Hollywood murders while at the same time barely escaping with his own life.

So instead of just licking the wounds of his broken heart and falling into the first bed he could find, which is easy when you are a man like Ten, he heads to South Africa on a mission to get his girl. But soon into the trip, he finds himself guarding a Hollywood A-list actress when she visits an orphanage to adopt an African child.

That successful trip puts him on the speed dial of superstar Sofia Maitlin and garners him another gig serving as a bodyguard at her adopted daughter's birthday party. It was supposed to be an easy day, guarding a pampered American princess who was being celebrated by Hollywood royalty. But like Tennyson always finds out, good intentions lead to no where but hell.

Next comes a kidnapping that puts Ten right in the middle of a web of lies, espionage, danger and uncertainty that only he can escape. And, this time he has someone else who needs him more, a beautiful little girl's life hangs in the balance.

If you enjoyed the first Tennyson Hardwick novels, then this one is sure to be an additional treat! A continuation of the surperb story telling about this amazing yet slightly troubled man, and his ability to get pulled into the oddest situations. Starting in Capetown South Africa, the latest Tennyson adventure takes you from Africa to Hollywood, touching on plenty but missing nothing. I highly recommend this latest installment in the series, and I applaud Tananarive Due and Blair Underwood for creating this series (which I absolutely LOVE). Oh yes - the cover of the book is also worth its weight in GOLD (Blair Underwood is HOT!)

Enjoy!

As usual, Tennyson Hardwick never disappoints. This was another roller coaster mystery. When Ten takes on being the bodyguard of movie starlet, Sofia Maitlin, needless to say, all hell breaks loose.

The characters you first met in Casanegra have grown into full-blown important people in Ten's life, and he needs those family members more in this book than he did in the first two. I'm too excited to see what the fourth one yields.

The story starts off in South Africa, where at first thought, Ten went to smooth over a broken relationship. While visiting, he's told about a very simple assignment of offering his bodyguard services to Ms. Maitlin. After he's finished up in South Africa, he happily returns to the U.S. so he can finish wrapping up his new movie with Spike Lee, as Director, and Denzel as his co-star.

But those dreams of being a big time movie star in Hollywood are put on the back burner when Ms. Maitlin comes a calling, again, for his services in her Hollywood Hills Mansion to watch over her newly adopted daughter's, of South Africa, birthday party.

Of course, the party went on without a hitch, until the nanny summons the security detail to advise Nandi, Ms. Maitlin's baby, has gone missing. The nightmare that ensues is any parents worst nightmare, but not as much as it is for Ten, since this happened under his watch, or did it?

Trust me, as the story unfolds, you WILL NOT be able to put this book down. It has all the zest and appeal that the first two books in the series offered. Will Ten solve this case before moving on to his next caper? Read and find out! OUTSTANDING Read!

I was a big fan of "Casanegra." I bought it based on the abstract while in the book store before the Kindle version was available and enjoyed it. I bought "In The Heat of the Night" the same way, but I was not as taken with it as "Casanegra."

Cape Town is ambitious in concept, but for some reason the flow of the book is not nearly as smooth and captivating as Casanegra. You typically look to find progress and growth in a character and this book seemed much more like a first effort than the third installment. I did appreciate where the story was trying to go, but it never picked up interest or steam for me in any aspect. It started slow and pretty much stayed there.

I will continue to support the series because I find Tennyson to be an entertaining protagonist, but unlike Casanegra, I can't recommend the book to people who aren't familiar with the character. If someone is familiar with the story-line I would give them a fair warning, but overall the book is flat and below the standard that I've come to expect from the series. Better luck on the next go-round...
