I received this book to read before a trip to Washington. I thought it added a good amount of details about the area without overwhelming a child. We are reading more Capital Mysteries before we go. I'd say this is for under 10 years old. My middle school child is too old and not interested. For the younger children it's good to see them try to solve the story before the end which shows they're engaged in the story.

My kids love Ron Roy's books and we enjoyed reading the Capital Mysteries series together. Roy should have stopped at book 13.

There's a certain suspension of disbelief you need to read this series. The slim security and staff for the president, the treating of the Veep as the president's personal assistant, and other goofy contrivances.

This book makes no sense. KC's motivation to save turkeys is unclear. Members of Congress are assumed to have pardon power like the president. A local pizzeria slaughters their own turkeys to get the meat for toppings. A pro-eating turkey protest group springs up overnight to oppose KC's collecting of turkeys, which will then live on a farm, to be cared for by who? KC doesn't seem to care who will care or pay for the care of all the turkeys she manages to collect.

My daughter loves this series! We live in the DC area, so she can identify with the setting of the books. Even though she has sort of outgrown this level of book, she still wants to read each new one that comes out.
