It was a huge project in our school, due on "American History Day" when the children all dressed up as their characters.

Bought this book because of my enjoyment of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. I wanted to learn more about Capone. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the book spent a lot of time on the other "personalities" of the era as well as the folks that "enforced" the Volstead act in Chicago and New York. Well written, making for an easy and entertaining read. Pictures of the individuals were nice to avoid having to wiki them as they came up in the book.

This is overall fairly interesting, but it tends to wander a lot about other things going on in Capone's era..not that this part couldn't be a good thing..but sometimes it just seems to lose focus.
It does provide a lot of information about the era and Capone..but it's not the best organization or writing I have encountered.

A very enjoyable read that is packed with information not only about Al's life and career, but a lot of context information about the state of Chicago Crime during his life. Many photos of the principle characters are included, with a few exceptions. With all the detail here, the impact of Frank Nitto's role in the mob is strangely ignored. I question the authenticity of some of the dialogue in the text, but the work seems well researched according to the notes at the end. Each chapter is titled, so you have an idea of what's coming. The prose is easy to follow. My only caution is the abundance of "background" information included make for a lot of detours in Al's story. However, an interesting read for those who like this genre.

Umfangreicher Wälzer, leider nur in englisch.

In dem Buch steht eigentlich alles was man über Al Capone wissen muss angefangen von seiner Jugend bis hin zu seiner Zeit in Alcatratz. Beinahe wäre er ein Baseballprofi geworden, entschied sich dann aber doch für die kriminelle Laufbahn und schaffte es da dann ganz nach oben. Und dann kam der Fall. Sehr spannende Lektüre.

Great read about Al Capone and the Chicago gangs themselves. Gives a lot of details about Capone and several others that he was associated with in one way or the other. This is the only book that I could find about Al Capone that had the most positive reviews and the highest rating, so if you are interested in the subject matter then I would recommend that you read this book above all the others that have been done about him. 10/10

Essential reading for anyone with an interest in Al Capone and the Chicago gangster era.This is an in depth view,albeit with American language and idioms, with areas of information which was previously unknown to me.The narrative necessary to set up the scene is not over burdening and the instances of gangland violence ( which is probably what many will be wanting to read) are well portrayed.
Overall, a good read.
