Boils water fast
Looks nice (people always compliment me on it)
Not plastic-free. Gasket around the heater looks like silicone. Just FYI for those who care.
I experienced the smell
Puts a lot of strain on my wrist for such a small volume jug
Feels a lot cheaper in-hand than it looks in the picture
BREAKS! I'll list things that have broken in the order that they broke:
"metal" finish chipped very early on
Plastic faceted cover on the LED popped off within a month or two of use, leaving a hole. (LED still functioned, but you have to peer down the hole to see it, which means you can't tell, from a distance, if it is on)
After a couple of years, the jug started leaking steam through the seam in the handle. This is the biggest problem, because it resulted in a nasty burn for me. There was no warning that the jug had become unsafe. I just went to pick it up one day and, BAM! Steam burn on my palm. Just from grabbing the handle, the way one always does!
I would not recommend this product. Very confused that it got such a high recommendation from Cooks Illustrated. Even without endurance testing, this jug felt disappointingly cheap the moment I took it out of the box. Should have gone with my instincts and sent it back.
