The story of Captain Markopoulos, is detailed, starting with his assignment to General Patton's command in North Africa (including the mysterious intrigue surrounding his visit to the Kasbah in Morocco), and then continuing on to Italy, France and Germany. In France, his very narrow escape from death as a prisoner of the Germans, only came about due to the intervention of the French underground resistance: MAQUIS. This story would indeed make a great Hollywood movie!
I also enjoyed reading about the early years of Mr. Martyn, growing up in America, his later years as an opera singer, and how he met his wife, Evi Martyn, and their wonderful life together.
Further, I was also very much intrigued with the additional information revealed by the author, regarding the mysterious and tragic death of General George S. Patton, and the coverup of the truth regarding General Patton's death.
It is a romantic, compelling, and intriguing look at the life of Capt. Markopoulos and how he is a constant recipient of fate. The book offers a mix of love, suspense, heroism, humor, and history all wrapped in one. It comes full circle beginning with Capt. Markopoulos' childhood as a Greek American and ending as a famous international tenor. It is a most interesting journey!
