The character of Ella is complex. She is beautiful outside and in but was emotionally and mentally abused by her father, her mother and her ex boyfriend, Doug. The only person she has in her life to depend on is her bestie, Kailya Montgomery, and her roommate. Ella wants to know true love but her self-esteem and self-confidence has been torn from her. She now lives in a gloomy apartment, wears gloomy clothes, works at a gloomy bookstore and depends on a gloomy bus. Her true happiness only comes from surfing and trying to write a novel. The only person that knows EVERYTHING about Ella is her Daily Journal, who lives in her tablet. Suddenly one day she spots Adam.
The character of Adam shares Ella's complicity. He is Brazilian, gorgeous and was abused mentally and emotionally by his father. His mother was abused by his father everytime she tried to protect her son. His sister was left alone because she offered nothing of interest. All of this for money. Adam was sensitive and a genius. He was bullied when young because of this. Monetarily he is set for life, protected from his father and stays away from long-term relationships. Surfing is his true happiness. Then one day he spots Ella.
Kailya is perfect. She has perfect parents, an apartment she shares with Ella, perfect clothes, perfect job and perfect boyfriend, Steve. Her only wish is that Ella finds a true and perfect gentleman that will love her forever. She saved Ella from death. She will keep encouraging her always but there is no one but her. Then one day a guy saves her bestie. Ella meet Adam.
There are other characters who you will meet that has a part in Adam's and Ella's life that you will enjoy, as I did. Again, I compliment the author on her talent, ideas, writing style and how she brings complicity to a place of love. This story can be a standalone. The author does express this is part of a series. Yes, I do want to read the continuation. I feel trouble for everyone, with a capital T. Enjoy!
Ella (the main character) was abused, emotionally and mentally, but never really physically. But, no matter what type of abuse it is - it is still abuse. Whether it was by her father (who didn't love his daughter at all) or by an ex-boyfriend - it is still a situation that you do NOT want to be a part of. Adam (the other main character) was also abused. Adams father abused Adam mentally - and abused his Mother physically. All in all - his father is NOT a nice person!!! His father is very greedy and will do anything in his power to get Adam to give him what he wants - which is money money money. Adam and Ella have more than abuse in common. They also have the love of the ocean and surfing!! Not that this is a book that is possible to write a spoiler (it's a love story) -- but this is an awesomely written story that will really keep your attention.
There are some things that do make the story more interesting and that gives it a little bit of a cliffhanger and has you wanting to read more - even though the book has ended!!! Well, guess what -- book two (Charmed) is there just waiting to be read and it starts right where Captivated left off!!!
We Meet Ella what comes from a very broken past. She really doesn't see herself as others do. She feels that she is to plain.. thin.. and has nothing to offer anyone. As a aspiring Author she finds her true passion out riding the waves and the solace to keep moving on with her so called life.
Adam is the Brazilian computer genius. He also comes from a very Broken home life. He just really wants to keep one foot in front of the other and keep moving on. He has his own secrets. We find out about his childhood but he is still hiding something.
Can Adam and Ella help heal each other? Are they able to open up to each other and get over each others sorted past? Will love prevail at the end of the day? Can Ella live with Adams lavish life style??
This was a great start to a amazing series! It does end in sorta of a cliffy.. but book two and three are already out! I cant wait to get my hands on the next installment!
Awaiting the next story in this series.
