The book itself was written well but the story wasn't tight at all. There were too many subplots going on and I could see what the author was trying to do and how these side plots were supposed to play into the overall story arc to get to the point of the climax but they all felt rather contrived and more like filler.
As for Gideon. Well, I liked that we got his point of view but I'm still waffling over my feelings over his head space. While he was completely aware of Eva's issues with certain things, he acted like he was completely justified in railroading over them himself. Yet, I suppose that was to be expected to a certain extent. If a man goes as far as to kill someone for someone they love, there really isn't much they can be expected not to do. But over all, I felt the more Eva was making an effort to put herself together, the more Gideon unraveled. And what is it with the women in his life? Are they all mentally unhinged? The only normal female he seems to know is his sister.
Overall, it wasn't a bad read but it was just disappointing. The story felt scattered, unfocused and many things unjustified. Rising tension came in spits and spurts and at points instead of biting my nails with anticipation, I felt myself asking "oh for crying out loud, what now?" with an eye roll. I was pleased with where it ended but I struggled most with how it got there. It feels like this book and the previous one were ways to make more money and bilk the fans and I don't like that feeling. I will likely buy the next (and hopefully last) installment and I can only hope the wait this time around won't be as long.
Brett Kline REALLY?! He has slept with hundreds of women and broken up with Eva years ago now all of a sudden he's in love with her and wants to have a relationship? And Gideon is the love of Eva's life but she is still a little confused about the guy she hasn't seen in forever? Also the sub-plot about the sex tape kind of confused me... at one point did they say Brett and his manager or someone wanted to use the footage publicly? Really?!
Cary is just a freeloader with baggage at this point right?! Where is all the money from him being a model for this clothing company? Why doesn't anyone else think it's bazaar that Eva is married to the love of her life with all the money in the world but Cary has to have an attached apartment in the penthouse? Really? Eva never calls him out on his bullsh*t by the way, why is she so blindly devoted to him? Did she really tell Trey that it might not be a bad idea to stay in the background of Cary's life while he sleeps with EVERYONE AND has a freaking baby with another women?! Really?! Cary is really sick and selfish and needs HELP and a STD check ASAP.
Eva is immature and scared but she was a tad bit more likeable in this book. Does it seem to anyone else that Gideon and Eva's sexual relationship is a little odd and may be unhealthy and that they have sex at times because they don't know what else to do?
Why does Gideon have BILLIONS of dollars and still act like he has a 9-5? A man this powerful wouldn't be dealing with half of the small stuff that seems to occupy most of his time, he would have people for that.
I could go on, but those are the things that just really stuck out, and if they think I'm waiting another year for more of this, they are sadly mistaken.
Monica shamelessly sleeps with anyone too and they all just smile in Stanton's face and use his money and resources? Really?!

Being reunited with Gideon and Eva was incredible, intense, sexy and truly captivating.
I loved this story, not just because it allows us to see more into Gideons past but because it allows us to reach into the core of his emotions and be captivated by his point of view, because that’s right ladies and gentleman, Captivated by You is a dual narrative, allowing us to see both sides of every clinche, every argument and everything that life throws at them.
For me the dual narrative made this book that much more intense, I’ve always known their feelings are strong but you get the true force of emotions when you are allowed inside Gideons head.
Believe me when I say, there’s a lot happening. With troublesome exes and people set on revenge, Mr and Mrs Cross find that married life isn’t a honeymoon.
But like always, as drama attempts to pull them apart, passion forces them back together again.
Whilst it was wonderful being reunited with Gideon and Eva, I was also very pleased to have Angus back in my life.
I know he isn’t a major character but there is something special about Angus that always makes me smile, I love the way he cares for Cross and it’s evident that for Gideon he is the one person that can be trusted with everything.
I lost myself in Captivated by You and as with the others in this series, when I turned that final page, I was already waiting for more….
I'd really forgotten how complicated Sylvia Day has made the Crossfire series. While we want to find an end to Eva and Gideon's abusive childhoods. I think we all know that living with this type of abuse is heartbreaking. To hit on a subject that is immortal and degrading on a victim should be dealt with sensitivity. But the Author has tried to captivate her audience by elongating the story causing confusion and distress making this book virtually unbearable to read. Very disappointed
I don't know where to start with my review. It has taken me months to get through this book. I never read books in between a book but I have with this one simply because it was so easily put down and picked back up again. The story has barely moved on and I feel that the author simply filled the book by explaining every single detail too much. Eg; I placed the cupcake into my mouth with my fingers........ ok so you 'ate a cupcake' obviously you used your fingers. This amount of extra filling could have cut the book in half. This book could have actually finished the series if Sylvia hadn't been greedy!!
Will I buy book 5? Of course I will. Because I am now invested and I hope and pray that the last book is as good as book 1 or 2.... PLEASE!!!!!!! But will I be anticipating it's release? Probably not. I wish this series had of been 3 solid good books because it would have been loved a hell of a lot more by a lot more people. Sylvia Day is a fab writer, no one can take that away from her. But she took a brilliant opportunity and turned it into a dragged out let down of a series. If you haven't read this yet, here's an eye opener. In the book Cary reveals that the Eva/ Gideon saga has only been going on for 10 weeks. TEN WEEKS!!! how ridiculous is that!
