In this novella we are introduced to the two main characters, Felicity Snow a teenager who has come to college in a small upstate town in New York hoping to make friends and come out of her shell. Cain a three hundred year old vampire who is in town trying to turn the violent vampires into more productive beings, so far very unsuccessfully. His main catalyst is Sindy who is a vampire that is quite full of herself along with the two boys she turned.
Felicity gets a job in a bookstore where she meets Ben. Ben becomes her friend and one night while walking home together they are attacked, but not by anything human. Sindy and her two pets are looking for a good time and a good meal but are stopped by Cain. Now Felicity has to face the reality that vampires are not just in movies. The first meeting with Cain turns into something else, something neither expected. He now has a big fight ahead of him and that is not with Sindy but with himself. He has to keep away from Felicity but is having trouble doing so.
I can't wait for the second novella and highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good vampire story. I now know that I have nine weeks of great reading ahead of me.

This is the first book I have read by new to me author Melanie Nowak and it won't be the last. This is the start of a series of vampire based novellas and it is advised that they be read in order.
Whilst this story doesn't bring anything new to the vampire lore and legend, sometimes you don't need new in order to enjoy a read.
A fairly typical town based idea the characters each sit nicely in their niche, but not to the extent where you don't feel the need to want to know what happens. I can see this being a world I will quite happily visit to spend a little time ... especially with Cain ;)
A 4 star easy read for me - and I already have part 2 queued up on my kindle!

While I believe the vampire genre has been overdone this was still an enjoyable read mainly because of the main character, she was well written and the story moved along at a decent pace. There were a few formatting errors and the odd grammar error - the word Untitled was used twice when I think the author meant title or entitled. Otherwise it was a good read and I would recommend it.
