This was the first time reading Leigh Moore. I am reviewing both Behind the Stars #1 Captive and #2 Learning to Spy

The first in the series, "Behind the Stars: Captive" I found slow and confusing at times. There were many flashbacks to previous events.
Prentiss Puckett is from an obscure town in south Mississippi. She will be graduation High school soon and looking forward to marrying her high school boyfriend.
She finds herself kidnapped and taken to a farm with other people from her hometown. They are sent to work the farm. While everyone else is in the mind set of being a prisoner until they die, Prentiss is determined to find a way to escape and rescue all her friends.

I find Prentiss a methodical, logical girl. She is barely 5 foot, but full of determination.

After finding out that the captors are really aliens, things get interesting.

Prentiss now what to find the truth about this claim and why they are here and what they want and why they kidnapped people from her hometown. Showing her knowledge of cattle, she is working along with the main people in charge hoping to find answers.

I am glad I read #1 and #2 together, it flowed better and made more sense to me. I also found the second book easier and more fun to read.

Now to read the rest so I can see how it all ends.

I'm giving the review to Behind the starts 1 and 2 together. I was leery about reading this book when one of the reviews likened it to Red Dawn. That book/movie kept me awake for months after reviewing it. But, I delved into it with caution I almost scrapped it due to cussing in a few places, I have a hard time with swearing in books. (this is why the book only rated 3 stars otherwise I would have given it 4) I braved reading past the cussing and found I really liked the story. When I was able to put it down it was because I was finished and there was nothing else left to read.

The author held my interest from the very first until the last. Leaving me wanting more. It was a good clean read without a lot of violence (I was worried about that) So far with what I've read I'd refer this book to my daughter and granddaughters and anyone else that might be interested.

The characters came alive to me. Each had his or her own distinct personalities and I could relate to them. I ended up feeling a kindred spirit with the characters, especially with Prentiss. The story seems to be told through her eyes. It does seem to start out a bit like Red Dawn where her little community is taken hostage by an unknown group of people. She, along with a number of others are imprisoned within a compound where they are put to work growing and harvesting food in the fields and taking care of milk cows for the milk and butter.

Prentiss is determined to find a way out and in doing so pulls you deeper into the story. She soon learns it's not going to be as easy as just getting away from her captors and needs to learn more about them.

Behind the Stars was a pleasant surprise.

4.5 stars

I have read nearly every single book that Leigh has written, and I have loved them all. Though nothing could have prepared me for her newest story. Up until this point, they've all been contemp romance. Now? Leigh shows off her versatility by tackling paranormal. This is completely different from anything she's written to date, and I am so excited for this new endeavor!

Within mere pages I had a good grasp of who Prentiss Puckett is, and what life was like in Dabb Creek. That is... before she was taken. Then the pace took off, and Prentiss was thrown into a whole world of trouble. She's kidnapped and drugged, but she isn't the only who went missing from Dabb Creek that day. Each chapter begins with a brief glimpse into the past, reliving memories. Though the scenes are brief, I feel like it's such an important aspect of the story, to keep Prentiss rooted, to remind her of what she's fighting for.

A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Prentiss knows what she wants in life. She has been dating Jackson since 7th grade, and they have plans for their future. Being kidnapped on her way to work was not in any of her plans. So now she has a new plan: to escape, help everyone else escape, find Jackson, and get back to her real plans. There is talk of aliens and World War 3, but nobody knows why they have been kidnapped to work on this farm, or if life outside the farm even still exists.

While Prentiss is trying to figure out what is happening on the farm, she has flashbacks to life before the kidnapping and we learn more about her back story with Jackson.

This is the first part of a 6-part series that will be released between now and the end of the year. It's hard to review a partial book - I think it's a strong beginning to a story. I like how tough Prentiss is and how determined she is, even though she appears to be in an impossible situation.

I definitely want to get started on Part 2….

Content: Clean, some swearing
