When I was a practicing archaeologist I would have loved to had some of the magic used in the story. But our world is more mundane than the Royal States world. Sigh.
Cassidy is stubborn and possibly cursed, answer is in the book. She just keeps going when others would give up. This is who I am, take it or leave it personality.
Bachelor 103 may also be cursed, again in the book. He doesn't emerge as a more complex character until later in the book.
Definitely Cassidy's story with her personal growth a focus point. The two come together then separate several times but the story is compelling whether they're together or not.
Some hard issues in one kingdom are addressed, more is revealed of the overall world and the caste system that is based on magic. Some characters from Null and Void appear, subtly and not so subtly.
Terrific story, what I've come to expect from RJ Blain and why her books are on my auto buy list. Looking forward to the next Royal States story and definitely re-reading this one as soon as I can, I'm sure that I missed many details in my rush to read to the end.
Get the story and start reading, it's worth the lost sleep.
Also how can you know love a world that has magic? I certainly do.
Cassisdy is one of my most favorite types of characters, she is stubborn, loyal and independent to a fault almost. But what could possibly be a weakness in others is just pure strength in Cassidy. She tells the world froget you and keeps going when most others would have fallen. But when she comes across thise that have fallen due to the world she picks them up and males them truge along with her.
She meets Bachelor 103 at the Elite auction where her boss has sent her to sell a priceless necklace to keep the archeological dig open where it was found. The sparks fly between these two along with sarcasm, heat and a few eye opening moments. But as we all know ( for me it was Indiana Jones who taught me) when it comes to priceless artifacts from archeological digs sometimes there are curses attached. Or are there. With the selling of the artifact the fun begins for both Cassidy and Bachelor 103. Both separate and together. And wow was it some fun in this book. I both laughed at Cassidy and also was right with her as she wanted to commit some violence. I love her brand of violence aka revenge by the way. This was a great book in the Royal States of America series and can be read indepyfrom Null and Void but if you have read book 1 GO anf get it also.
I cant wait to read the next novel of the Royal States of America as i am LOVINH this series.
Cassidy is an interesting character who many a former doctoral student or intern will identify with and the book shows lots of personal growth kickstarted by an interesting evening with the H.
I was keeping my eyes peeled for updates on characters from Null and Void.
