This book is about the former "Republics" of the Soviet Union or USSR prior to the collapse of communism in t991. It does not include much information about other territorial and administrive divisions of the now defunct Soviet Union or much about the Jewish communities such as the Jewish homeland in Siberia. I wonder what happened to the Jewish homeland and how many Jews lived there and still live there. Also not mentioned are the Sami and Bashkirs among many others. I don't remember if the Russian Republic was mentioned as one of the captive nations or not. After World War 2, Germany and Austria were considered to have been captive nations under the Third Reich. Not that I'm trying to make an equivalency or anything of that kind between the two.J.B.
