The books were like day and night. The only things they had in common were the author, the suspense and the fully developed characters. As I was reading, I kept muttering, “How did she think of that twist? Where does she get her ideas from?”
I was invested early in and with shockers like this, I’m sure you can understand, “She looked down and tear-filled blue eyes blinked up at her. The baby’s bottom lip was trembling. In the five months Mary had the baby she’d never before felt a tug in her heart. Amazed at what fear would do to her, she shook off the feeling and tucked the screaming baby into the diaper bag.” Into the diaper bag?! Just try to put the book down after that sentence!
The book was a stand-alone thriller with just enough romance at stake to keep my anxiety flowing and my attention caught. I have to confess, I did something I rarely do. I peeked. Yup. I peeked at the ending because I couldn’t take the suspense anymore. I got my answers but the fascinating storyline never let me put my Nook down until I was finished reading Captured Lies.
Many authors use a cookie cutter formula with different sprinkles to change things up a bit. Thom is not one of those authors. Captured Lies
proceeded at a riveting pace with plenty of surprises and it kept me invested in the characters and concerned about the outcome for Bailey, the main character, when she kept tripping over family secrets.
Thom has written her first two books with the flair of a seasoned author, so I can’t wait to see what she writes next. I don’t know how she does it but Thom is a writer’s writer.
Maggie keep it up we need great writers like you.
Again a great read.
The work did suffer somewhat from an overabundance of commas and coincidences. I sometimes found character decisions to be a bit difficult to believe, and the style of writing in some of the sexual scenes was a little overwrought for my taste. Overall, though, it’s a fun book and sets up some interesting possibilities for the sequels.
