Tess Bennett has never dared to dream of a better life. With no family and working a dead-end diner job to make ends meet, she’s just another twenty-something struggling to get by.
Until she’s kidnapped one night by a mysterious older woman. Ava is seductive, commanding, beautiful as sin. She takes Tess to her secluded island mansion, insisting it’s to keep her safe.
Ava provides her with every luxury she could ever dream of, but all Tess wants is answers. In a gilded cage, she must place her trust in a woman as cold and distant as she is irresistible. A forbidden kiss is all it takes for the spark between them to ignite.
Her protector, torn between a promise and desire...
A long time ago, Ava Vidal made a vow. She intends to keep it. Rescuing Tess was only the beginning. Now, Ava must keep her safe from those who mean her deadly harm.
But what’s even harder is keeping her hands off the woman she swore to protect. Especially with Tess determined to tempt her. She thinks she can handle Ava’s twisted tastes. With every tantalizing moment spent in Tess’s presence, Ava’s iron will unravels.
A secret that binds their hearts...
But the truths Ava hides could shatter them both. Because their lives have always been connected. As danger looms, can the two women risk everything for each other?

Editorial Reviews
Review
"What a hot, fun, and tantalizing read! It's not often I find an author who somehow reaches directly into my brain to pull out all the things I love...This story has it all." ★★★★★ Tory L.
"Ms Stone has written a nail biter with her 'Capturing Tess'. Sleep deprivation occurred while reading Capturing Tess because it was difficult to put down as there were things happening in the storyline that I need to know what was going to happen!! From the very beginning the book takes off at a quick pace and it is enjoyable to read as it doesn't get bogged down irrelevant fillers. I don't want to ruin the storyline for anyone because it is really well written from start to finish. True to form, there is the 'Anna Stone' level of sexy heat in and amongst the plot twists, these do not disappoint. You won't be disappointed picking up 'Capturing Tess', it will be a book you will not want to put down until the very last word." ★★★★★ Vanessa Mace

Of course I knew going in about the kidnapping piece, and was willing to suspend my concerns about Stockholm syndrome I would have if this was happening in real life. Same with the age gap; 22 and 38 is eyebrow raising but legal and I can tolerate it in this genre although I would certainly have concerns in real life.
However, the reveal at the 3/4 mark gave me major, major ick. Spoilers ahead...

Hopefully that worked, I don't think Amazon has a way to do spoiler tags. Anyway, it turns out that Ava had a relationship with Tess's mother. She does not reveal this until after she and Tess have begun a relationship. Not only that, but Ava says repeatedly that she should have found Tess earlier, after her mother died. If that had happened, they would have had a parent child relationship. Thinking about that in the context of their actual relationship just freaks me out.
Ava never knew Tess as a child, the connection to her mother is never stated as a reason for their attraction, and I don't get any vibes that the book is attempting anything incest adjacent. But keeping that a secret from someone you're sleeping with, combined with the age difference, combined with the hypothetical parent child relationship if Ava had found Tess even a few years earlier... I'm so surprised that didn't bother anyone else!
And I do think the book could have been made to work without that connection. They could have just been friends; she could have left out Ava's desire to find Tess as a child. I get the impression that it's supposed to deepen the sense of romantic tragedy but it just does not work for me. It's really too bad because otherwise I enjoyed their relationship and connection and the campy drama of the kidnapping plot.
Throughout the book, there were subtle hints and clues about who the villain might be, but I never could have predicted the shocking twist that was revealed. I won't spoil it for those who haven't read the book yet, but suffice it to say that the reveal of the villain was unexpected and completely took me by surprise.
What I appreciated about this twist was how it added a whole new layer of complexity to the story. It made me question everything that I thought I knew about the characters and their motivations. It also made the stakes much higher, as the danger became much more immediate and personal.
Overall, the plot in Capturing Tess was a masterful stroke of storytelling. It added a new level of depth to an already complex and emotionally charged story, and kept me invested in the book until the very end. Anna Stone has once again proven herself to be a skilled and talented author who knows how to keep her readers on their toes with the right amount of Spice to drive it home.
She also manages to add in a few unexpected twists to the story. Well done!

A fantastic book. I loved it from beginning to end. Both characters were both lovable strong women.
I would definitely recommend. You’d be mad not to read it.
I can’t wait for the next book. 💜
