Classic Neocolor II Water-Soluble Pastels
Caran d’Ache
Use these soft, water-soluble pastels to create beautiful watercolor effects. Simply make a sketch with Neocolor II pastels, then sprinkle it with water and allow the colors to dilute. Use a brush to pick up colors and paint as though with watercolors. You can also draw on moistened paper for a wash and varnish effect. These water-soluble pastels have a high pigment concentration that results in bright, opaque colors, suitable for many techniques on dry or wet paper.

Apply these water-soluble pastel techniques:
- Sgraffito – Apply several layers of Neocolor II (dark over light) and scrape down through each layer to reveal the underlying color.
- Watercolor – Wash techniques are excellent for fashion illustration and design. Use as under shadow for watercolor, dry pastel and color pencil.
- Textile – You can design textile patterns, quilts and tapestries. Apply to wet fabric and heat set with an iron using a piece of scrap cloth or paper to protect the iron.
- Templates – Applied onto a cutout, the wax pastel can be distributed with finger or brush

I should start this review off by saying that I am NOT an artist. I am a grandma that just loves to color and through the years I've added different pencils and pens to my coloring arsenal. I've tried a variety of water color pencils... Faber Castell, Castle, Artiza but was never attached to the results because no matter how many techniques I tried, all of them left residual pencil marks. I stumbled across several watercolor tutorials on Pinterest and the Caran D'ache Neocolor II was a consistent medium used in some of my favorite finished coloring pages from other enthusiasts. The price was definitely a sticker shock but I had already spent about the same amount on other watercolor pencils (that for all intents and purposes were now gathering dust) so I decided to treat myself to an early birthday present, bit the financial bullet and placed my order. I have to say it was the best coloring purchase I have made. The crayons melt like butter, are incredibly vibrant and when it dries the slightest amount of water can be used for additional blending. It leaves no residual marks and because of this you can literally scribble it on the page versus having to be precise with pencil strokes. The pics are my first attempts... The Kerby Rosanes Worlds within Worlds moon pic is a WIP that is 100% Caran D'ache Neocolor II.... the finished Hannah Karlzon potion page was my first attempt to complete a background, add a galaxy to one of the potion bottles and show a unique blend in the blue bottle. Other mediums were also used..... the newest Nelco Neco Story of Precious Cats shows a condensed early galaxy in the crystal ball. I absolutely love, love LOVE these crayons and am so glad I bit that financial bullet and ordered the largest set straight out of the gate. Best coloring purchase ever and I use them all the time!
