I ordered this book when I was getting ready to restart the diet. It has a great variety of excellent, hearty recipes. Although you can totally construct your own recipes and meals with CarbLovers, one of the great things about having this book is you don't have to think about anything. They have meal plans just like in the first book. Most of the recipes are easy to scale down. I've even made recipes from this book for friends and they LOVE the food! I do make changes to some of the recipes (I have a degree in Culinary Arts, it's hard not to play), but for the most part the only changes I really make are in the seasonings. It doesn't hurt to add more spices and herbs. For the Shrimp Tacos for example (and btw, they are FABULOUS!), I added as much chili pepper and cumin as I felt it needed. There are also some fun additions that weren't in the first book like recipes submitted by celebrity chefs, menus for themes like a Summer BBQ or Game Day (I don't remember the exact titles, but they are along those lines), and refreshing cocktails!
My only complaint is that it's a hardcover book. I understand it's large, but I would have really preferred it in a soft cover. It's just easier to handle in a kitchen. Spiral bound would be even better!
My only warning/recommendation is that this book really is a supplement to the first book. I do not recommend purchasing it on its own. You really should get started with the first book, "The CarbLovers Diet: Eat What You Love, Get Slim for Life!" and then use this book to continue your diet if you plan on sticking to it for longer than 28 days.
The menus are very easy to follow and prepare, mostly items already in home pantry.
