I received an advance copy of this book in order to write a review.
Alison presents 12 different case studies to help illustrate her methods and recommends exercises for you to do. A lot of the folks whose stories she shares had been going through some real struggles. Even if you are doing well but are looking for a change, then this book can still help you out. You can use the information to help make an informed decsion before you get to the point of being "stuck" and in real need of some coaching.
Some of the best information in this book deals with belief systems and how people limit themselves with their negative thoughts. Sometimes these beliefs can be so bad that they stop you before you even took the first step. Alison shows exercises you can do to combat this. Interestingly, Alison challenges the whole belief that you can "wish" good things or jobs to magically come to you. She talks about what you should do instead. This is a very well-written book with lots of good information and exercises. If you feel at all stuck or know someone who is, this is a good book to read.
All the stories included in the book provide real-life examples of people who successfully worked their way through Alison's process. I identified with a number of the stories, which made the process "more real" to me - if these people can do it, so can I!
I felt as though I were being coached by a friend, someone who was gently guiding me/coaxing me out of my comfort zone to explore new career options. Alison makes the process of career change less scary by breaking the process down into more manageable pieces, all the while providing encouragement and reassurance that any feelings of discomfort/uneasiness that may surface are normal and an expected part of the process.
The book contains many tips, suggestions, and exercises to help the reader navigate the world of career change possibilities, while having fun exploring one's options! A great resource!!
CAREER GREASE is filled with many insightful stories and anecdotes from individuals who have experienced a variety of career struggles that anyone who is looking for career guidance can relate to.
Additionally, the resources and exercises provided in the book are incredibly helpful and easy to do no matter what your circumstances are. While it's always best to work with a coach if you're looking for the most effective career guidance, this book is an invaluable tool to use until you're ready for that extra support.
If you're feeling stuck, questioning your current career, and want to know the first steps towards career change and fulfillment, then CAREER GREASE is an amazing book to get you started.
