''Beautifully illustrated....Transports readers back to the excitement and magical adventures of the Fablehaven series...One of the fun and quirky features are the notes by Kendra and Seth as well as other Fablehaven favorites. The great thing about this book is it is written with enough detail to interest those craving more knowledge, but also maintains a simplicity attractive to younger audiences. After reading this book there is an urge to reread the entire Fablehaven series.'' --Compass Book Ratings

It's a good "book", with great images and descriptions of the creatures and preserves in the world, with fun little additions from Patton, Seth, and Kendra. The style and information in the book make it clear it was written before the events of the books, so expect some discrepancy if you've finished the original series.
there is little to no information that cannot be found in the original five books. the descriptions of the creatures and items are pretty much copy and pasted into the guide.
there is a lot of filler stuff too; multiple pages of just quotes from the original series.
the book seemed like it was rushed, there were multiple spelling errors and missing words.
also, unlike the spiderwick field guide (which i think this is based off of), there are not individual illustrations for each entry; there is maybe one per page.
its nice to have everything in one place, but i was disappointed by the lack of new information.
if youre buying the book for the sneak peak, just know that it is only two pages long (one page is a letter from stan to the kids vaguely laying out the initial plot, the other page is three brief descriptions and illustrations of new characters).
anyway, if you collect the fablehaven books, its worth buying. otherwise, youre better off checking it out from the library.
