The alternatives are the Tek Supply 109921 and the 'Scotty' (http://www.amazon.com/Scotty-Tarp-Clip-Black-pack). Neither grips the fabric tightly enough to withstand wind, and both require the use of a tool to release.
A tip: there is a groove in the CargoLoc clip just behind the serrated jaws. You can use this groove in conjunction with a bolt rope to hold the fabric even more securely.
The people at the factory failed to smooth down the washers' injection mold feeder lines. Some extended more than a millimeter away from the outer edge, indicating careless cutting and nonexistent inspection and quality control. It is hard to have confidence in the product in service as a grommet when it takes 20 minutes of customer effort to get the parts in reasonable shape for use.
The inner and top edges of the grommets had multiple whiskers of hard, pointy plastic. It took a great deal of filing to smooth them down, but there were still rough areas sure to stress and age lines unable to slide smoothly inside them. I will have to use bungee cord hooks or carabiners instead of less expensive loops of line like I desired.
While doing all this new product repair, sadly a requirement in modern times with trading partners like China, I noticed the upper sections of the grommet centers looked and felt thin. They will be installed in thick washers, so I doubt there will be a problem. The thinness gave the impression, however, of being cheap and weak.
The grommets are poorly finished by the manufacturer, and should have been rejected and melted down, not sold to customers. The company ought to be ashamed to have its name on such a low quality product.

Four X shaped incisions on two folded surfaces created weak points that made a hung up tarp tear away from doubled grommets in two minutes.Read more ›
come apart easily also.
I used a hot glue gun while applying them to make them stronger.
Still looking for some high quality ones.
would recommend for light applications.
Most uses are to add rope points to sheet-like materials which do not already have eyelets, for attaching ropes, bungy cords, etc
> Use on any tarp or sheeting which does not have eyelets
> Use on a tarp when the eyelets are spaced too far apart, or at inconvenient locations
> Use plastic sheeting like a tarp to protect patio furniture, cars, etc.
> Hang a wet rug or blanket to dry (but use lots of clips, or just use the clips to secure the rug, etc. to a drying frame)
> Hang greenhouse sun screening to protect plants from direct sunlight or wind
> Hang temporary signs printed on plastic sheeting or painted on fabric
> Hang fabrics to make temporary or "arty" curtains, screens, and/or room dividers
> Hang a quilt, Navaho rug, antique Persian carpet, etc. on a wall as an art object
> Hang painter's canvas drop cloths to protect furniture
> Hang plastic sheeting to stop drafts
> Secure non-fitted sheets to a mattress (including decorative sheets to futon mattresses as sofa covers)
> Secure a table cloth to a picnic table
> Secure a comforter to a hammock
> Secure beach towels or picnic blankets from blowing away (using weights or tent stakes)
> Sometimes CargoLoc clips are handy for simply clipping two pieces of fabric or fabric-like material together, even when you do not use the eyelet part (don't attach a rope or cord).
> Anchors or tie-down points for party balloons, etc.
> Hanging points (e.g., for a lamp, etc) from a tent roof, etc.Read more ›
