Made in El Salvador. Stitching separating after 5 weeks
on February 15, 2013
I had high expectations for this thermal shirt and felt it was going to be worth paying a premium to get Carhartt quality. This shirt is a bit thicker and more comfortable than some other thermal shirts. Looked ok as well and did well keeping me warm in cold weather the few times I wore it.
Today after the 4th wash (warm water wash and tumble dry on low) I saw the stitching separating from the collar down the top of the shoulder (about an inch is already separated along the seam and its now a hole. I wasnt wearing this but about once per week on the weekend and didn't even subject it to any real work.
Well its not made in the USA but in El Salvador. Just another cheaply made import and if I had known it was not US made I would have passed on it (never would have thought Carhartt would move production out of the USA). Way to pricey for a cheaply made import. I am a week out of the Amazon return period so I guess I am stuck with it. Will contact Carhartt to see how they stand behind the shirt and update the review if things change. I miss American made products.
3/6/13 - update: I contacted Carhartt and they gave me an RMA # and I have sent it back. They got the shirt on 2/27/13 so they have had it a week. I called today to see what was going on and they said they have to examine the shirt which will take them till around 3/19/13 (about 3 weeks to examine it) and then they will either return it back to me or replace it. Of course by the time I get anything back winter will be about over. Good efficient customer service goes a long way with me. How it takes more than a day or two to inspect the shirt is beyond me. Anyway maybe they have to send it out to some lab and have fabric engineers examine the seam to determine what has caused the failure.
