Here is my issue...this is my second coat of this style. I bought the first one last winter in a local store so was able to try it on to ensure correct fit. I am 6ft 185 lbs. I went with a large regular which was big enough to wear a sweatshirt underneath and with the drawstring pulled in a bit at the waist was perfect. I figured the same brand of coat in the same exact style (C61) in a different color would fit exactly like my other one. I was WRONG..the one I just received is huge. So big in fact I can wear my other one underneath this one and still have extra room. According to the tag it too is a large regular but it's more like a XXL. As luck would have it, currently there are no mediums in stock for an exchange...very disappointing.
Other reviewers warned that this coat runs big and to buy a size smaller than normal. Since I already had one that fit correctly, I was stubborn and did not listen. For those of you considering this coat, buying smaller is excellent advice.
I read some reviews telling me to err on the side of a smaller size if you're between sizes. I usually run between L and XL, so I followed this advice and got a large. I'm pretty broad at the shoulder, but when I tried it on it looked like I was wearing football shoulder pads.
It seemed to be a good quality jacket, but be even more conservative about your size: if you usually wear a large, get the infant size.
I ended up returning this and buying a different model of Carhartt at my local farm supply store. It's an XL, and it fits me perfectly.
All that said, the vendor was great: the jacket got to me quickly, and they processed the return quickly and smoothly. Just be sure and get one at least two sizes smaller than usual.
It always gets comments about how nice it is.
It is not cheap, but well worth the money spent on it.
Had I not gotten fatter I would still be wearing the one I bought 6 or 7 years ago.
I am 6'1, 145lbs. Usually take a 38" chest, 34" sleeve. I originally ordered the small based on reviews. Jacket was a perfect fit in the chest and shoulders. Sleeves however were 2" too small.
I then ordered the medium. Perfect fit in the arms; tent like everywhere else. Usually a medium for me in any other brand fits good; this thing felt like an XL. Pity they don't make a small-tall.
Returning this and heading for another brand.
