Beyond that, the black V01 was roomier than the brown V02, which was kind of snug, even though they were both sized XL.
I have been a devoted fan of Carhartt's durability in their work clothing for years, and I would've liked to have given a five star rating instead of four, but I find that they've outsourced their manufacturing to foreign countries. These vests are made in Mexico. I also bought some work jeans that were made in Nicaragua, and I just returned a cap (made in China) that I was very disappointed with.
I'm not sure if my circumstance was poor quality control or what, but I thought I would relay the information to those considering a purchase.
Also, the pockets are a lot smaller than they look in the photos. I like to carry a small short barreled revolver in my vest pocket, and the pocket is so small the grip on a revolver with a 3 inch barrel sticks out the top.
I am sure I can send it back for a refund or replacement, but I need to lose weight anyhow and I'm cheap. Maybe putting this on occasionally will inspire me to keep eating right as it gets looser?
The quality of this vest is outstanding and it seems very durable. The zipper is heavy duty. The front pockets are good sized and warm. The vest itself is really warm. I live in Kentucky and it's been kind of a mild winter. I'm warm natured but I've worn just the vest and a short sleeve shirt most of the winter. At work I've had to drive a forklift for a little over an hour at around 35-45° and with a thin shirt, the vest and gloves and a sock hat, I was plenty warm. Also, with the front pockets you get 2 layers of duck and 2 layers of insulation which adds a lot of warmth.
This vest is really awesome and if it shrank much, I would buy a bigger size and have it tailored to fit, that's how much I like it.
The only negative things I can say is the way that carhartt cuts their clothes the sizing can be difficult if you have an athletic build. That is still an issue with this vest but not nearly as bad as other carhartt I've tried. The other issue I've noticed is with rigidity of the duck fabric. While seated, if you're wearing the vest and it's zipped up, the vest gets pushed up to wear the collar is above your jaw and the bottom of the arm holes starts digging into your arm pits.Read more ›
I think Durable is key, my husband is a utility mechanic for the city and needs durable clothing, he also needs clothing that's not cumbersome and is easy to work in. This vest provides that extra layer of warmth without the bulk. If he needs another layer he adds a sweatshirt underneath. If your husband is between sizes you might want to go up a size just for the fact that he will be wearing this on top of 2-3 other layers. We ordered the brown so it will hide grease and other stains easily. Washes well, stands up to really tough circumstances.

It's a Carhartt. Sure it will be stiff for the first couple of years and 6-8 washings, but it will be comfortable for the next 25 years. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Katie Rosa
Good quality. But if you have a slim build, look elsewhere. If you have a beer belly, this is for you!Published 2 months ago by Cadd
