When I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa in early spring of 2001 I was told that I would be totally blind in one to two years. Eleven years later, due to the Vitamin A Palmitate, I am still driving, still working at my job as a home health care nurse and enjoying a full, but somewhat limited life.

I was told I might have a deficit in Vitamin A, so I picked this up, and took it for about a month or so. No side effects, and if anything it actually might have made my skin look more vibrant/younger. I no longer take it because I switched to a multi and dont want to overdose, but for those who dont take a multi and need vitamin a for skin care / acne / etc, I would say go for this brand. No complaints, pills are really tiny, and very high IU for the price!

I love these softgels and have been taking them for the past few years. They are lab created, but I greatly prefer that to Cod Liver Oil for Vitamin A (no mercury or overfishing or taste worries). Yes, they are a fat soluble vitamin, so don't take more than one a day or if you are pregnant (your prenatal will have all you need and no more). I know Vitamin A is good for eye health (night blindness), but I take it for skin health. Without it, I tend to get follicular hyperkeratosis (small red bumps on my arms, legs, and forehead). My pores also seemed to shrink when I started taking it. Not to mention, Vitamin A is an anti-oxidant. Ask your doctor if you are taking other things.

I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa and advised to take Vitamin A, Lutein and DHA by my retina specialist.

I have tried the following supplements:

Carlson Labs Vitamin A
http://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Vitamin-Palmitate-15000-Softgels/dp/B003B3P4IQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1434038154&sr=1-1&keywords=carlson+lab+vitamin+a+15000

Freeda Vitamin A
http://www.amazon.com/PALMITATE-15-000IU-250-TABS/dp/B003CO347W/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1434038123&sr=1-1&keywords=freeda+vitamin+a

Ophthalmic Nutrition Vitamin A, DHA and Lutein
http://www.amazon.com/Vitamin-Palmitate-000-DHA-Lutein/dp/B00PHY4LE0/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1434038168&sr=1-3&keywords=vitamin+a+15000

I have had good experiences with all 3 brands. I know some people get headaches with high dose Vitamin A but I have not had this problem.

Price wise, Ophthalmic Nutrition is the cheapest (if you calculate the price for buying Vitamin A, Lutein and DHA separately), followed by Carlson Labs and then Freeda.

I say if you want to just take Vitamin A, go with Carlson Labs. If you want to also take Lutein and DHA, go with Ophthalmic Nutrition.

Good deal for those who need this. Be aware that excessive IU in a day can lead to medical problems, so be aware of what youa re taking and the side effects. For healthy people, taking 15K IU in a day makes no sense. For others, just talk to your doctor or vision professional first.

I got this for my son who has Retinitis Pigmentosa. I was not able to find the recommended amount of 15,000 IU anywhere else but Amazon. His doctor said that it is a good idea that he started his treatment with Vitamin A Palmitate. So, it is too early to say yet but I hope this will help in same way that it has helped some of the other reviewers here while other treatments, mostly clinical trials, are discussed.

Yes, it is potent. I started developing vitamin A toxicity symptoms after about two month of taking this. Symptoms resolved after about a month of discontinuation. If you get vitamin A from dietary sources, be careful with this dose.
