Much love Wyclef✌👊

An excellent comeback from a legend of the game.


Typisch für Wyclef und seine Carnival-Serie scheut er auch bei "Fall and Rise of a Refugee" keine Genres: Hip Hop der golden Era trifft auf Word Music, Clef schwebt von Pop und Salsa (Trapicabana!) über Raggae zu Trap.
Die Abgrenzung zu plattem Pop schafft er - wie immer - sehr geschmackssicher: selbst wenn der Sound sehr radiotauglich ist, schreibt er über die kleinen und großen Themen des Lebens. Es wird über Flucht und Musik als neuen Lebensweg gesprochen (Warrior), darüber dass nach dem Fall auch wieder ein Hoch kommt (Carry On). Und darüber dass wir als Menschen unsere Lebenszeit auf dem Planeten nur geliehen haben und diese zum Positiven nutzen sollten (Borrowed Time). Trotzdem behält er dabei seine positive Grundhaltung und driftet nicht in tristes Storytelling ab. Wo "Carnival" drauf steht, darf auch gefeiert werden!
Für mich als Hip Hop Fan lässt sich "Carnival III" gut durchhören, ist Wyclef doch trotz seines Throwback-Styles nicht in alten Zeiten hängen geblieben und schafft den Transfer zum modernen Sound gekonnt. Meine Favorites: Warrior, Fela Kuti & Concrete Rose - tolle Beatauswahl & starke Delivery. Wie immer gibt es auch starker Newcomer (Jazzy Amra! Riley!) zu hören, die hoffentlich ihren Weg machen. Alles in allem ein gelungenes, kurzweiliges Comeback.
