Blog postI love Booksprout, a website that allows authors to connect with ARC reviewers. One of the reasons I continue to us them is because they provide me with reviewer email addresses so I can contact reviewers with reminders and information. (I discuss this in more detail in Early Readers Catch the Worms: How Alpha, Beta, & ARC Readers Can Help You Publish a Better Novel).
But one thing has always bugged me about Booksprout: they don’t give me a way to download those email addresses. I2 days ago Read more -

Blog postWhen I get lot of feedback from alpha or beta readers, I like to organize it in one document so it’s easier to do my revisions. This feedback document can get long though! Microsoft Word has a feature called the Navigation Pane, a clickable outline that makes it easier to navigate from one part of the document to another.
This short video (under five minutes) shows you how.

Blog postThis blog series addresses grammar and style errors many authors make.
Part 1 of this series is about how to properly punctuate dialogue tags and action tags. Click here to check out that post.
For Part 2, let’s talk about a related subject: italicized internal dialogue. (The errors here are more in style/tense/point of view than grammar, by the way.)

Blog postRecently, I asked my author friends on Twitter what they wanted to know about audiobooks. I promised to write a “big, newsy thread” answering their questions.
I quickly realized this is way too big of a topic for a Twitter thread! So let’s jump right into a big, newsy blog post about publishing audiobooks as indie authors.
As with other in-depth posts I’ve done, I’m including a handy-dandy table of contents. Click on any of the topics to jump to the part you want to read. (The6 months ago Read more -

Blog postI’ve done a fair amount of beta reading for other authors, and I’ve noticed several recurring errors many authors make. Let me be clear: It’s okay to struggle with grammar when you’re a writer. Grammar and storytelling are different skills, and copy editors/proofreaders exist for a reason! That being said, the better your grammar, the … Continue reading "Common Grammar Errors, Part 1: Dialogue Tags and Action Tags"

Author Interview:
What makes this new world unique?
In the Sun-Blessed Trilogy, the magical system is tied to childbirth. I love the miracle of birth, and tying magic to such an incredible event felt natural and appropriate. Some of the heroes in this series are midwives, who pass magic on to sun-blessed children and later train these same children to use their gifts.
What audiences is the series appropriate for?
This trilogy is appropriate for teen and adult audiences. There is no cursing, explicit sexual content, or gory violence. (The series contains childbirth scenes, details of puberty, non-gory murder scenes, and non-explicit references to adultery). I wanted to write a series my own kids could read, and I’m happy to provide an exciting, quality story that a wide variety of ages will enjoy.
Reading Order:- Facing the Sun, Facing the Gray, and Facing the Fire should be read in order.
- Birth of Magic is a prequel novella that may be read before or after the main trilogy.
The highly anticipated sequel to The Frost Eater, a post-apocalyptic YA fantasy novel reviewers called “a wild ride” that “sizzles along to an unexpected end” with “heavy-hitting action,” “magic and dragons,” and “a touch of romance.”

Author Interview:
How does Birth of Magic fit into the rest of the Sun-Blessed Trilogy?
Birth of Magic is a prequel to the Sun-Blessed Trilogy, and it can be read before or after the other books. It’s a novella, which means it’s shorter than a typical novel, about one-third the length of Facing the Sun.
What audiences is the series appropriate for?
This series is free of cursing, sex scenes, and gory violence. Birth of Magic, however, has some content that is more mature than the trilogy, with non-explicit descriptions of life in a brothel, as well as the physical ramifications of childbirth. My goal was to deal honestly with the emotional fallout from such difficult life experiences without including explicit content. I consider this novella to be appropriate for ages fourteen and up.Reading Order:
