Edited to add: I've just started using the simply soff brand and as others mentioned, you need to start slow and coach the beginning cord down through the shoot, but it works great and makes a really nice cord.
I just uploaded a picture of a braided rug I'm working on. I'm using Caron Simply Soft yarn as well as two strands of a 2 ply machine knitting yarn. The braided rug is pretty thick and I've already gotten just over 2 feet finished in just under a week. I plan on the rug being 5 feet. Really pleased with this little machine. I've had no problems at all, it's worked like a charm!
Then I found this. Now, as a crocheter, we do everything by hand, we don't have machines that can do what we do, but, the iCord is inherently a knitted technique faked by crochet.
I read the reviews, and I was hesitant given what everyone had said, but I'm very pleased with the product.
You cannot use worsted weight yarn. You'll get the item, you'll read the instructions (which also say you can't), you'll make a length of cord and then you'll try to use worsted weight yarn. The little hooks can't handle it. It just wraps around the outside. It's a bummer because what this little thing does with a fingerling, lace weight and sport weight is perfect.
The description says you can make 18 feet in 10 minutes. I haven't tested but no matter how fast I turn the crank, it doesn't fail so long as it is cast on properly with the proper yarn.

Took a while to get the hang of it. (At least for me.) I didn't find the direction that helpful.Read more
