Kara Swanson's remarkable story provides a very meaningful glimpse into the life of someone who has been changed by a head injury. By sharing her personal triumphs and challenges she gives us a new sensitivity for the countless people and families who focus each and every day on their recoveries. Both Kara and her book are special. -- Marian Bayoff Ilitch, co-owner Detroit Red Wings
Read this book! Even if your life has not been touched by injury, you will be enriched and inspired. -- Adrienne Shepperd, RN, BSN, MSA, The Lakeland Center

This is the BEST book I have ever read on this subject, and believe me....I have tried to read MANY! Being a brain injury survivor myself, I can tell you that it is written in an easy to understand format (which survivors will tell you is VERY important!) and a font which is easy to read (another MUST for brain injury survivors!). After my injury, comprehension and vision problems were 2 of my greatest difficulties. I read book after book trying to understand what was happening, and how it would look for me in the future! Kara's book is the ONLY one that did that for me.
I will also add that having a book that is easy to read and understand is SO IMPORTANT for the children of brain injury survivors. There is very little out there to help the children on this issue, and Kara's book does this so well. They will have a greater understanding through Kara's book.
I appreciated her honest self-revealing point of view. It made me feel like I was not alone. I cried and laughed (which is also very common for someone with a brain injury), but finally I knew the reasons WHY I was crying and laughing. I knew there was hope and help....even if it was very hard to find.
I was always rooting for Kara, because it was important for me to root for myself. No one can really make you feel better, if you don't have hope for yourself and keep persevering! Kara taught me that throughout the book. She also taught me to keep a sense of humor for what you are going through, and the hope that it will be better. Very important when you think that this is as good as it will get.
How do we know that Kara wrote the book herself? Because it comes truly from her heart. I have met her therapist and herself at a conference on brain injury, and she took the time to talk with me, get to know my family members and to teach me about belief in myself. Not through just "tooting her own horn," but through genuine care and compassion.
Kara wrote something in my book when I met her at the conference: Dear Kelly, "What delightful moments we had! I can't tell you how much I wish you and your family well. WRITE TO ME! We can help each other. You hang in there and keep smiling that infectious smile. Know that I'm pulling for you!" Kara
Kara has stuck to that promise, and we have both learned from each other....through good times and bad throughout my 2 years of recovery from my own injury! She is, by no means, self-centered or all about herself. Just the opposite!
Kara is truly someone to look up to. If you read this book, or even meet Kara in person someday, you will truly know and understand what I am speaking about.
The fact that SO MANY people have given this book the highest of reviews should give you testimonial about the importance of this great work! Kara's book is special.
I, for one....amongst many, HIGHLY recommend this unique book, with NO reservations!
Again, thank you, Kara, for your honest and important words. They have made a HUGE difference in my life! I know they will make a difference in many more!
The only reason why I don't give it the full 5 stars is because the kindle formatting was pretty poor which made it hard to read.
