There is only one behind-the-scenes feature, a 16-minute cursory but entertaining glance at director John Lasseter's influences (his dad was a car-parts manager), including some of the real-life inspiration for the film such as Michael Wallis's influential book on Route 66 (he also voiced the sheriff). There's a new cartoon for the DVD, "Mater and Ghost Light," which is smile-inducing at best. Four deleted scenes (in storybook format with voices) also show a darker tone the movie may have taken at one point. Best is the adorable short "One Man Band" that showed theatrically with the film, and the film's credit sequence can be seen full screen without the credits (and find the Easter egg for an extended version). Cars is one hour and fifty – six minutes long and was released in theaters on June 9, 2006. The story is about a Lightning McQueen who is a stock car racer with a big ego and does not take advice well. Three pit crews have quit already and after the race ends at the beginning of the movie his current team quits. McQueen is on his was to California to race in the Los Angeles International Speedway to decide the winner of the Pinston Cup. He forces Mack to drive through the night, so he can be the first one to California. McQueen fall out of Mack’s truck and winds up in Radiator Springs. While at Radiator Springs and doing community service McQueen learns something about himself and the meaning of friendship. Cars is a great family movie and gets an AAAAA+++++.

As a general rule, I don't like NASCAR. The beginning definitely shows everything I find obnoxious about NASCAR, but I stuck with it because my little ones like things with wheels. I was glad I stuck with the movie. The character development is a fun journey as you discover each character, complex and simple. The scenery is quite nice too - although I'm pretty certain no one location along Route 66 has ALL of the things in the movie in such close proximity (maybe I'm wrong and if I am, I'd love to know where I should be planning a future vacation). Overall it was a fun family movie and my children love it.

As a pastor I am glad to see films like this that attempt to underscore how dangerous pride can be, and how rewarding it can be to see others as equally valuable as yourself. We "rented" this movie mostly for my son who has become obsessed with Mater, the tow truck, for unclear reasons. Although the movie was really for him, I really enjoyed it. We watched it twice in our 3-day rental period, and I thought it was a great story. Similar to most other Pixar movies, the story line was enjoyable for both children and adults. I thought the "message" was cute as well.

The movie was definitely a G-rated movie, and I felt appropriate for my almost 3 year old. There was some action but there weren't any "scary" scenes. I will happily watch this movie again.

And I agree with my son, Mater the tow truck is awesome.

Our three-year-old twin daughters saw a trailer for it and chanted "Cars" hopefully every time the TV was turned on for days after. When we got the DVD, they were not disappointed.

It is a bit too long for them to sit and watch at one go but they are quite happy to watch random half-hour excepts. Watching it in sections does not spoil it because the plots are too drawn-out and disjointed even for daddy to follow.

What Daddy loves is the fantastic colours in some of the sequences. The colours seem to start where the impressionists left off and then build on them some. If you like paintings by Monet, I think you will love the life that the colours bring to this movie.

For the colours, there are two memorable sequences for me. The first sequence follows a lorry driving along as day turns to night through evening, including what sounds like a horrid cliché: purple shadows across an orange desert in the evening. That could look a serious mess in the wrong hands but really works like magic. Another of my favorite sequence has a red and a blue car racing along through the dappled shade of trees and I won't attempt to describe the changes of colour as the cars pass rapidly and repeatedly though bars of shade.

And it is all in really clear high-resolution.

I also love the quirky and playful way the landscape is carved into images of cars and car-parts, took me a few goes to recognise some of them. And lots of other quirky throw-away bits like tire-mark contrails in the sky and the realisation that the flies are actually miniature cars which is only obvious teh second time you see them. I actually smiled when I realised that the large slanty rocks behind the town are 1960's cars with large tail-fins embedded nose-first in the ground.

We all loved the characters, but that begins to touch on why the film does not work for me as a film. There are just too many strong, larger-than-life charactrs: Lightning McQueen and his lorry, Mac; Mater the tow truck, Doc Hudson the bitter ex-race car, Luigi the tire-store owner, Guido, Sally the Porsche, Sarge, Chick the cheat and on and on. All really great characters and all vying for attention.

For me, the film also has too many good ideas vying for the plot. Is it a film about how a cocky race-car learns humility; the story of the death of route 66 and the towns on it, the story of how a great race car, the Hudsen Hornet, is unfairly excluded from winning by a change in the rules; a romance between Lightening McQueen and Sally the Porsche ? It's all of them and more and I found it dissorientating having so much going on to the point where the film lost its coherency.

I give it full 5 out of 5 because it excels at the scenery. I can't imagine many people who will not be charmed by that and the lovable characters.

Both films are fun and the whole family enjoyed them. My only criticism is that Cars has a PG rating though there doesn't seem to be anything worrying in it. The Incredibles is an excellent film but it carries a U certificate. There are a lot of quite frightening scenes, explosions, danger and some gun use. Some of the 'baddies' are killed, though some little ones might not realise that's what happened.

For sensitive or very young children, The Incredibles might need a flick through from a parent first. Odd certification for both of them, but that aside, they're very entertaining and beautifully crafted.

Movie arrived on time and in New packaging. The only issue was that I had troubles with the digital download and it took me some time to figure out who to contact for help.
Basically I am located in Canada and it kept telling me I couldn't redeem in my location although the form with the code on it said it was available in Canada. Turns out when you go to the website to redeem you need to change the location in the upper right corner from Canada to US in order to redeem. Silly but they need to put that info somewhere or change their website programming to recognize Canada.

Bought this combo to offer my 2 year old an alternative obsession to Finding Nemo. We watch snippets of movies for story time and comment. The Incredibles is a bit too old for him yet, however Cars is spot on. Very age appropriate with regards to the concepts expressed. It's all about friendship, being responsible, being fair, and give your best.
Fair discipline: McQueen is naughty so he has to make up and learn to face his responsibilities.
Differences: Age, origin, different experiences benefit all. It's good to recognise others for their differences and qualities.
Respect of others: You have to prove yourself to be worthy of their respect.
Positive competitiveness: McQueen learns there is more than winning races, after all it's just an empty cup. What matters is how you win, he stops himself from winning the cup to tend to the King so he can finish his race, demonstrating examplary team spirit (all that from the guy who started of as a "one man band"). Sometimes the winners are the loosers, Chick may have won the cup but he's done it in such a nasty way, no one want to be his friend.
We now alternate successfully between Nemo and Cars and every so often try to introduce something new, so the parents don't get overloaded with the same story over and over again!
