Update 24 sept 13: I finally got around to using the pump to transfer fuel from barrels to an aircraft. The 1.2 gpm flow rate is a bit leisurely for a 50 gallon transfer, but better control than the 30 gpm mess I experienced with pumps designed for truck-mounted tanks that have real gas-station hoses and nozzle.

The pump came with two brass 3/8" hose barbs that thread into the pump.

The electrical connectors are just un-threaded studs, so you must use their proprietary push-on connectors, which are included with a retaining clip. Lose any of it and you are dead in the water.

Tom

From various places on the web and the installation manual I found that the Carter P4070 pump specs are:

Free Flow Rate: 72 gph
Maximum Pressure (psi): 6 psi
Inlet Size: 1/4 in. NPT
Inlet Quantity: One
Inlet Attachment: Female threads
Outlet Size: 1/4 in. NPT
Outlet Quantity: One
Outlet Attachment: Female threads

There is an inlet screen built into the pump to keep out rocks and birds, but

An inlet filter is mandatory to prevent damage and for warranty. Apparently the pump and motor flood with fuel for cooling, which makes it sensitive to contamination from water, rust and crud.

The pump in the box weights exactly 3 lb.

These universal rotary vane electric fuel pumps from Carter operate with leaded and unleaded gasoline, gasohol, and fuel boosters. (There is no mention of diesel, but Diesel blog members report great success using the P4070 as a lift pump from the tank to the high pressure fuel pump).

They have an internal pressure-regulating valve, and feature free-flow fuel delivery. These pumps have no points to burn out, and no shaft seals to leak or deteriorate.

This is a great electric fuel pump for your daily driver or high performance street machine using a carburetor. This pump has been around since the early 60's. I have had one on my 65 GTO for over 10 years now without any problems. I also have one on my 78 Ford Ranchero and have had zero problems with that one. Just make sure you mount the pump in the rear below gas tank level. You will NOT need a fuel pressure regulator with this pump. It does make a little noise but at least you will know that it is working and once the engine is running you will not hear it! Great price with free Amazon shipping.

I purchased this pump to replace a Wellbro unit that had failed on my '64 Pontiac. The Wellbro was noisy and difficult to install. The Carter is quiet and came with everything I needed to get it in and pumping. A great unit for the price.

I found my onan 7000K generator needed a new fuel pump, It was $280 for a geniune Onan one. I found on a forum a guy cross refrenced the Onan # to this one and it is the exact replacement. Installed it and works perfect again!!

I'd decided that this pump was just what I needed for my 1979 Fiat 124 Spider race car; a pump with built in pressure regulator that was a better choice than what was in the car. I found this pump at other sites and at the last minute, thought: "just for fun, I'll try Amazon". I was pleasantly surprised to find this pump on Amazon and gleefully ordered it as it was nearly 50% lower-priced than the other parts warehouses. A happy choice!!!

I'm Useing The Pump As A Re-Fueling Pump To Transfer Fuel From 5gal.cans Up To The Wing Tanks On My Bi-Wing Aircraft. I Use A Hand Held Push Button SW.In One Hand And Fuel Hose In The Other So I Am Able To Controll Fuel Flow Without Spilling Fuel On-to The Fabric Painted Wings .Works Great BUDDY

This unit only put out 4 psi with no regulator. I am running a 351 cleveland, 4bbl 1405 edelbrock, stage 1 jetting. I don't know if this pump is putting out 72gph at 4 psi, but it fell short on fuel at 4000 rpm at WOT. What I had to do was put an airtex inline pump before the Carter as a helper.(6-9 psi airtex)
No more lack of fuel at 4k rpm and above. I am telling you this just in case the carter falls short for you and the other option is a very loud 110gph holly or what ever. These 2 combined gave me 14 psi, so I put it on a regulator and set to 6 psi. Seems good so far.
As for noise.... If you have ever heard the holly blue/red, or NOS sniper 97-110 gph pumps you'll know this carter is quiet. Yes you can hear it. If you have a performance exhaust you won't hear it when cranked. Even in my 99 accord I could hear the stock fuel pump when I turned the key. This is just a tiny bit louder. But very quiet when compared to other after market pumps in or near the same price range.

The village elders still speak around the campfire about a time with automobiles were equipped with things called "carburetors" which were Byzantine contraptions designed to atomize gasoline for mixing with oxygen at a stoichiometric ration of 14.78 to 1. Legend has it these devices were perched atop gasoline engines for many moons, but were wiped out by the dinosaurs around 1982. There are still a few carbureted engines among the villagers to this day, but most suffer from a myriad of problems, including a proclivity for "vapor lock", a condition that my old Ford Bronco developed on the high-mountain passes of Colorado.

The elders told me to latch on to one of these Carter P4070 electric fuel pumps, and I did so in order to curry favor with the village council. I installed the Carter as directed, knowing that it's PSI rating was perfectly inline with the requirements of the carburetor. I installed a fuel pressure regulator to give me a bit more control, but I don't think I really ever needed it. Afterwards, the Paleozoic Bronco churned up those 13,000-foot passes like a asthmatic rhinoceros, no longer sidelined by the spectra of vapor lock.

Easy installation, not too noisy, rock-solid reliability. Make the elders happy, and slap one into your junk today.
