I didn't know there was going to be a Carter Reed 2 till Friday glad too because I would've gone crazy waiting to get my hands on it. Oh....who am I kidding...I preordered on Sat morning & obsessively stalked Amazon & refreshed my Kindle library every half hour hoping to see it magically appear early...until about 10:45 last night when it finally showed up in my library. Needless to say, I read all night. Ok...what to say about this book...Carter Reed fans are gonna buy & read it no matter WHAT I write in my review so I'll try to sway first timers. Read Carter Reed before this one ($.99 right now) so you'll understand the story better. This book starts a year after book one ends. Carter & Emma are still so much in love & still living together. This causes quite a lot of anger, friction, & hurt feelings between Emma & her friends who, as we know from book one, do NOT approve of Carter....even though he's out of the mafia. But...just when you think you're out, they pull you back in (sorry, couldn't help myself). To protect Emma (and another character) Carter has to delve back into that life once more. What I've always loved about Carter & Emma is its ALWAYS them against the world. Never any mistrust, never a breakup to protect the other. They stick together, side by side, no matter what. As with book one, no cheating or vicious ex's appearing & as I stated mistrust. Carter stays out all night...or even for days at a time...& she knows it's business related. She knows he's not with anyone else....and I love that. I hate insecure heroines. What else...oh, Emma finds out she has a living relative....don't wanna give too much away there so I'll leave it at that. Anyway, it's a great sequel, absolutely everything I'd hoped it would be & a definite 5 stars. I'm gonna go take a nap now.

This book 2 takes up where we left off in book 1 and that is where the similarity ends. Your are instantly fired off into a completely different trajectory that you just do not expect, HOLD ONTO YOUR SEAT !!! We know who and what Carter Reed is. (apart from being hot and sexy) We know he will stop at nothing and no one is exempt from his wrath when it comes to protecting Emma.
Is Emma really strong enough to survive in this lifestyle? Will Carter really be able to protect her from it, when war really starts and both their lives are in real and present danger?
The amazing twists and turns in this book and an ending that will leave you speechless. With war and blood never far away you will have a copious ammount of WTF, OMG, WHO? NO NO NO and breath stopping moments that you will just not be able to set this book down till you reach the end.
I really liked the first book, but this book totally blew me away. I loved Emma and her strength in this book, i loved how much her and Carter grew together and i loved every single heartstopping moment and twist to this book.
Tijan has not only raised the bar with this book, she has surpassed every standard and shown us what an outstanding and amazingly talented
author she is.
This is a definite must read !!!!!!!

Still a Tijan fan! The first Carter Reed I enjoyed much more. I am still pleased there is a Carter Reed 2, and will read the next, if there is one. I couldn't fully grasp where the author was leading us in this second installment. Yes, more secrets are revealed involving Emma's childhood, but I don't get why they were introduced. I totally get why we needed Cole. He dialed up the hot Mafioso meter. (Check) Amanda and Theresa were there smothering Emma to death - why did I not feel like they were that needy in the last book. Noah just seemed to hover a lot and serve alcohol, did he ever even talk? I love the possibilities of the introduction of Brian. All in all I see the pieces gradually falling in place for an amazing series - albeit random pieces. I don't mind being patient.

DNF. This is very rare for me, usually my OCD keeps me from stopping a book. First, please let me reflect on the positive and keep in mind, this is my opinion only.

The concept of this story is brillant. For this only, I give 2 stars.
It is the execution that fell short for this reader. Carter Reed 1 was my first introduction to Tijan. As an avid reader, I find I enjoy books so much more once I learn a little about the Author. The whole mystery thing with this Author kinda put me off from the very beginning.

I COULD NOT CONNECT. For me, it all fell short in its lack in details all the way around. Too many areas were vague thus leaving the whole big-bad Mafia lifestyle not so big and bad, it was like Carter was sitting in a Board Meeting. For most of us women that read these books, we fall for these Book Boyfriends by reading descriptions of how they look, smell, and make love to a women, this Author chooses to keep details lacking. If it were not for a Muse picture posted on Facebook, we would never know what Emma looks like. We readers cannot connect with characters when details are not there thus, I never connected to the character. I was able to get through book 1 but once I hit about 30% into book 2, and the story is growing more complicated but lacks good defining details enabling the reader an easy flow and causing further disconnect, I gave up and did not finish.
