This book is a sort of encyclopedia of cartoon styles. It is a very useful reference. I would say that it will be more helpful for someone who has been drawing a bit than a total newbie. It does not cover any of the basic fundamentals of drawing, so if you have never drawn before, you may want to start with a simpler book. The best simple cartooning book that won't overwhelm someone who has never drawn at all is Al Ross's Cartooning Fundamentals. In my opinion, it is one of the best books on drawing that exists.

This book is very dated in style but an excellent addition to my drawing library. It does provide a new(old) perspective and shows the transition from realistic to various cartoon styles.

We have artists in the family, from ages 10 to 55. Everybody is trying this & having fun. Would recommend it.

The book has proven more useful than I imagined. This coming from an untalented cartooning enthusiast. Well organized, rich in content and good reference material.

Exhaustive variations, small printing and illustrations, pages jam-packed with examples. Good for the price; some readers will probably prefer a more modern volume. Talented author. Worth a look.

This book is a great accompaniment to Hamm's book Drawing the Head & Figure. It's good by itself but great as an addition to the other book.
