The sequel was packed with just as much danger and intrigue as the previous book, and actually drew me in even more! By now, I had a pretty solid grip on the senior MCs and was quickly adjusting to the juniors. Truly, I think I enjoyed this ride more than the first, but perhaps just because everything is already set in motion and I have a solid footing in the plot, the characters, and the world. I'm already dying for book 3. Of course, it doesn't help that I thought I had more chapters to read and then, nope fooled ya...extras. I swear, I don't think I've ever been more disappointed to see the extra content, which I normally love.
Just as before, the book was well-written (and nothing pulled me out of the groove this time. I didn't see any boo-boos at all), the characters positively charming (and some really sweet minor characters that have me hoping against hope that I'll see again!), the world fan-freaking-tastic (makes me want to go there! I loved the little bit of Italy I've seen and I definitely want more!), and the plot as engrossing as ever before. I'm hanging on a thread here! Two-day shipping better hurry up!
Minor violence, tactfully handled. Super-sweet romance, nothing worse than a few stolen kisses (medieval peeps were pretty chill XD). And no swearing. There was a scene where some...lustful implications were made, but it was brief and not detailed in any way whatsoever, again, very tactfully handled.
Like it’s predecessor, Cascade was filled with daring escapes, heart wrenching tragedy, heart warming romance, and jaw-dropping battles. There was so much conflict and thrilling adventure contained within its pages that it felt like I hardly had a chance to breathe… and I loved every minute of it. The characters of this series are so well-voiced that I can’t help but feel that I too am one of their comrades at arms. In so many books I read it is impossible to tell one character from another. Often, I can’t even keep track of which character belongs to which name… there was none of that here. Each character is an individual and full of personality and depth. The world building was rich and vibrant, and contained an ever-present edge of danger that made me feel like I couldn’t let my guard down. Even when it seemed like things were going well, I knew that the well-won peace for the characters would soon come to an end.
This is a fantastic series for young adults, and I’m personally going to induct the entire series onto my to-keep shelf. I would happily recommend it to anyone who enjoys YA fiction. There is a lot of blood, gore, and war in it’s pages, but romance-wise, the story is clean. I believe the more mature elements of the story were respectfully done, and I wouldn’t have a problem recommending it to any young teen. This is a strong second book, and I can’t wait to finish the series!
While I thought Waterfall was pretty action-packed, it's got nothing on Cascade. There is nonstop action, and Gabi and Lia again prove themselves to be girls who are not to be messed with. I love that they are two girls who have powerful men at their side, yet they don't need those men to take care of them. They aren't simpering, they aren't weak, and they definitely aren't like any other protagonists I've read about. It's so refreshing to read about girls who take care of themselves!
Even though Gabi and Lia are empowered characters, they've got their handsome counterparts, and I must admit I waited with baited breath for scenes with Marcello. (Really, though, how could you blame me?) I like that the couples respect one another and truly seem to value one another's opinions and wishes.
I thought Waterfall was a fun and refreshing read, but I think Cascade is simply a great book. It's fun and refreshing as well, but it's got deeper questions underlying the fun that are just handled so well and delicately. I am so excited to read Torrent!

I don't even know where to begin. It's just the whole 'feel' of it. The time period and location that the Betarinni sisters travel back to again is so rich and active and exciting and sooo completely different to current time that it makes it so easy to escape into and never want to come back up for air! Its really hard to put into words what is so compelling about these books. If you've read them you know.
This second book contains just as big an adventure as the first one, except this time the girls bring their mother back in time with them. I wasn't sure how this would work at first but it really does. She's not a major character so she doesn't get in the way of the girl's antics but she certainly adds something extra.
The handsome Forelli men are back too (obviously) and are very heavily involved in the advertures of the girls fights and escapes, and their interactions and relationships are just so well written. The whole 'romance' aspect is great in these books because obviously back then you married at a very young age and so the sisters (Gabi in particular) are faced with difficult choices to make.
The other thing I love about these books, and the second one in particular, is that the author isn't scared to put her characters through some really rough times. I mean, what happens to Gabi in this one made me shudder... and what almost happened to her made me shudder even more! Its YA but borderline adult in some places and I really like that about these stories. Because otherwise they wouldn't feel realistic. In those days, awful things happened to people and just because the story is YA, it should not ignore that fact. So I applaud the author for taking the story to those shudder inducing moments!
The ending was fantastic. Not a horrific cliff hanger but a fist pumping moment that ended so brilliantly that I immeeidatly downloaded the next book because there was no way I was gonna read ANYTHING else until I read the third book right?
Einfach spannend und schön .
Das Buch ist in einem super Zustand! Und dann noch für diesen niedrigen Preis.
Vielen Dank! :)
