Along with this case interesting non connecting cases are pursued especially the items being stolen from boats & supply store at the marina. This leads to a very harrowing sea chase in the English Channel.
All and all Ms. Golden has supplied readers of the D.I. Graham series with yet another terrific, interesting and entertaining novel. If you haven't read any of these novels then I as an avid reader of all types of mysteries, etc. would highly recommend you give this series a try.
The main mystery in this story reminds Inspector Graham too closely of his own personal tragedy (revealed in the first book). Various incidents arise that may or may not be related, and it takes all members of the local constabulary working the various issues to determine the culprits and if related or not.
I have greatly enjoyed every single story in this series, but I felt that this was the most fleshed out of them all. By this point Inspector Graham is becoming more comfortable in his new locale and job site, and that reflects in his confidence with tasking his employees to handle the numerous events which occur during this book. All of the characters contribute to the humor also written into the story – gotta love the Bangkok Palace restaurant staff. LOL. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Reading the previous books in this series is not necessary to enjoy this one, but they will provide additional depth to various comments and situations.
Detective Inspector Graham (DI) is a capable, experienced and knowledgeable police officer and a great mentor to his staff. He often sees what others do not see with an unchallenged photographic memory. He shows his skills as a mentor and demonstrates that good police work will not be replaced by electronic robots. Read this one for sure. You will enjoy it.
Alison Golden's Detective Inspector Graham series just keeps on getting better and in this fourth book we also learn more about him and his police colleagues on Jersey.
I have read a great many murder mysteries and it is so refreshing to find books like this that are well written, witty and with an interesting plot that's not full of swearing or in-depth graphic descriptions of gruesome deaths or post-mortem examinations. I can honestly say it was an excellent read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm now avidly looking forward to the next one!
Ms. Golden should be put in the same category as Agatha Christie in the way she keeps developing her plot and keeps us guessing. Her attention to detail and her descriptions of everyday life and attitudes in Britain, as well as her portraying of the various characters is superb. I enjoyed the story and I will definitely buy more of DI Graham's books.
Wonderful twists and turns had me guessing wrong perpetrators all through the book, and being blindsided by several occurrences. Excellent book. I highly recommend it.
A missing girl, a hopeful mother, and a community that hopes that she will someday return. Detecting with both old fashioned police work & Internet forensics not only 1 crime is solved, but 3!
Highly recommend this to those who enjoy cozy mystery stories set on English soil. Welcome to the quiet island of Jersey.

Another good plot with plenty of twists and turns which all started ten years ago. Can DI Graham unlock the secrets of the past? What surprises are in store for the team? I'll stop now before I give anything away......best if you just read it. You will enjoy.
That get Graham's attention and he and his team start to look into the cold case.
They do find more than the bargain for and also the thefts at the marina have a surprising end.
Captain Janet goes online, DI Graham and Constable Jim Roach interview teachers and people who saw Beth Ridley that morning, trying to get some lead as to how she could vanish. Then a random glance turns up their best clue.
