I did not find this book very useful at all in studying for the CCM examination. But, if you are attempting to open up a case managment business: this book provides excellent guidance. Also, a useful guide for case management practice.

I read really good reviews I saw it recommended a lot. I didn't particularly like the style in which it was written, and I didn't use it to study out of much. I needed to get as much practical information and facts as I could for the CCM exam and I didn't feel like it was useful. But it does have a lot of content so it may be very helpful for others.

My main problem with this book is the following quote from page 32, which reads, "If a home health agency provides dated information - case managers it last worked with when an actor was in the White House - questions its capabilities." This is an apparent dig at Reagan, a Republican president. PLEASE NOTE that I am not complaining about this due to my personal political views. Rather, I am complaining because this type of statement may bias a potential case manager against his or her conservative clients. Imagine the outrage if this underhanded insult was directed at our current president, e.g., if the quote read, "when an black man was in the White House." That example is clearly unacceptable and biased against African Americans, and would likely not have been published. By the same argument, the original quote is just as unacceptable.

As case managers (or social workers, in a broader sense), we must treat ALL of our clients with dignity and respect, regardless of their personal political opinions (or race or ethnicity, etc). Such a dig, whether directed at a Republican or a Democrat, is extremely unprofessional and has no place in a purportedly professional text. What makes it worse is that this statement could have easily been phrased in a neutral way by replacing "an actor" with "Reagan." I was greatly disappointed to find such a statement in a supposedly "academic" work. The author, and this book's editors, ought to be ashamed of themselves for allowing their personal bias to be present to such an obvious degree in a book that will help shape future case managers'/social workers' professional views. I now question this author's capability to be a neutral, unbiased teacher and provider to ALL clients, regardless of political opinion.

I recently took, and passed, CCMC's CCM exam on the first try. After attending the author's seminar, "Best in Class: Case Management," I took her book home and read it cover to cover. Personal anecdotes brought additional perspective to information on topics in which my own job gives me less exposure. It's a great addition to anyone's exam study prep, or for those considering a leap into case management.

There are other better books available. The author relies heavily on personal anecdotes and cliches. She glazes over important details in the law. I am very dissappointed with this purchase.

as a first time case manager, it covers a lot of areas with just enough detail to prepare me for the job ahead. although i wish it less female pronouns and i accept the writers apology in the beginning. if you are a first time case manager or interested in the field it is a necessary resource. textbook.com was efficient and delivered a quality book in a timely manner. it still had the original cd as well. thank you.
