Power your camera with any 5V external battery pack or AC power source
The Case Relay Camera Power System (CPS) lets you power your camera continually with any USB 5V battery pack or wall power, providing peace of mind knowing you have an uninterrupted power source for your camera.
With Case Relay, you’ll never run out of power and never need to stress about forgetting your camera batteries. If you’re shooting and get low on battery power, simply swap out external USB battery packs throughout your shoot. Case Relay’s internal UPS battery will keep your camera powered while you exchange external batteries. Utilizing a wall outlet or multiple USB battery packs, you could in theory shoot forever with consistent power flowing to your camera through Case Relay.
How does it work?
Simply insert the Relay Camera Coupler directly into the camera battery port, attach it to the Case Relay CPS and power your camera with any standard 5V USB external battery (commonly known as a portable USB charger) or an AC power source, such as a wall outlet or generator. Because Relay also has its own secondary internal 1200 mAh battery, if your external battery runs low you can easily hot swap the external battery and not lose power to the camera. If you have access to AC wall power you can also use the Relay USB Wall Power Adapter (sold separate) for an infinite power source to the camera.
The Case Relay Camera Power System provides constant, uninterruptable power for your camera and is perfect for time-lapse photography, photo booths, video production, power hungry LiveView shooting or any long day on the set. Connect Case Relay CPS to a Tether Tools Rock Solid External Battery Pack (10,000 mAh) and you’ll be able to shoot considerably longer than you would with your standard camera battery. A 10,000 mAh battery pack provides 3-10 times the power of most camera batteries, depending on the camera.

This product failed each time I tried to use it at 35°F in the mountains. Tether Tools Tech Support has stated that the specified operating temperatures the product info says it can work at are too extreme and that the real capability was less than specified. Tech Support told me to seek a return, but because their failed product is outside the return window, they will not replace or return it. They will offer store credit, but frankly all their products are very over priced (50 dollar cables, 100 dollar battery banks, etc) and I don't need any of it.
The logic of the product doesn't make sense. It must be fully charged before use (a partial charge should do, it should know when to recharge and still pass power to the camera but it doesn't seem to recharge when it should). It is supposed to be a 'perpetual' rotating battery solution, with the inbuilt tiny battery keeping gear running while you swap out batteries at the end of the USB cable. However in practice, it doesn't recharge itself reliably when it gets low. To use it at all, you have to buy a power bank with no auto off which most have these days. So from the start it is a bit of a hassle to use when it even works right.
With all that annoyance, add to it that this product is extremely expensive for what it is:
a tiny 1200mAh battery with a flawed charging circuit and a voltage regulator circuit, plus some cheap wire, barrel plugs, and plastic dummy battery adapter. All for $150 USD.
For reference, my own home built voltage regulator circuits in nice black plastic casings equal or nicer wire and barrel plugs, plus a separate battery adapter that is EXACTLY the same one Tether Tools sells (probably same Chinese factory) costs in total to make/buy less than $25 USD. If I really wanted to, I could easily add a single lithium battery with more capacity and a better charging circuit to make it identical in function for another $20 dollars. Also, my home built circuits regulate at the exact voltage I wanted for my camera, regulate more precisely, are slightly smaller to pack, and work in extreme cold without fuss using the same power bank, camera, and cables that Case Relay cannot work.
The entire relay product is Chinese designed and built as stated on the back, and is re-branded by Tether Tools and does not work reliably in all the conditions they say it does. I like the idea, but it needs a redesign and better price. It is a great concept implemented badly. Customer service is friendly but won't consider that their product cannot do what they say and so sticking to their return window and offering me store credit for other products I don't need is not making things right. I needed reliable voltage regulation and wanted the reliable battery swap feature I paid for. Not happy and wish I'd built my own regulators first, it was easy and they just work.
In the end, Tether Tools gave me store credit when I returned the third unit. So now I have to try and find something to order that won't fail on me.
It is an accessory that every photographer must have.
Allows you to power your camera from an external usb battery, so you will not have anymore issues because of lack of battery.
Depending on your camera model, you will need to purchase the dummy battery separately.
This accessory has a 1200 mah internal battery, so you can change the usb power bank at any time without interrupt shooting.
Perfect for a long timelapses.
With other available options to power up my camera from external battery, the high speed multi shot, wasn't possible. The power supply was not enough for high speed shooting.
With Case Relay, the high speed shooting is possible. Works exactly as well as with the internal battery.
I am pairing this with a RAVPower 16,750 mAh battery. It has worked flawlessly. I have installed the adapter into the Neewer battery grip for the A7 series. I had to make a modification to the grip and battery chamber to cut a hole for the cable.
I have used this to shoot about 1,500 photos in an afternoon. I loved that I never had to worry about loss of battery power, which is a valid concern with the Sony A7 camera (all digital cameras, to be fair).
If I were to do it over again, I would get that little thing that connects the system power cable to the power cable that goes to the dummy battery. I lost power a few times when I accidentally disconnected the power cables.
This aside, I've shot with this accessory a number of times and am very pleased with it.
