Review
"I come across books now and then, and I heartily recommend those I really like. But I'm just flat-out telling you to get this one. If you believe in Donald Trump, if you believe in the whole 'Make America Great Again' agenda, if you want to read some of the most intelligent defense of Trump, the most intelligent defense and explanation of Trump's agenda...the book is tremendous.... If you love Trump and if you're looking for ways to help other people who don't understand Trump to understand, this book is gonna be ideal."
―Rush Limbaugh, -"As a great historian, Victor Davis Hanson makes the case for President Trump with unique insights and historic understanding and clarity. A must-read for everyone who supports the President or wants to understand this moment in history."
―Newt Gingrich, -"A brilliant and bracing analysis from one of the great thinkers and writers of our time, and a farmer to boot - Victor Davis Hanson. Hanson understood the circumstances that gave rise to Donald Trump early on, how the president has made long overdue changes, and why his enemies seek to destroy him."
―Mark R. Levin, -"Hanson is shrewd and insightful on Trump's appeal... one of the smartest conservative defenses of Trump yet published."
―Publishers Weekly"A well-researched explanation of how Mr. Trump beat all odds to win the presidency, and also an account of his first two years in office."
―Washington Times"Hanson sets out calmly, cogently, urgently a corrective to the anti-Trump hysteria."
―The Times (UK)"A necessary and important addition to the already existing body of literature on why and how President Trump defeated first his Republican rivals and later Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton... a timely and revealing book."
―Washington Book Review

The renowned historian Victor Davis Hanson once again delivers a piercing review, this time of a current president beset on all sides. Hanson thoroughly explains the historical context which brought Trump to office & why his presidency was necessary to unseat the old established order. The coastal elitist have become so detached from 'Americanism' that they still can not grasp how Trump is president & they likely never will. "America first" in an age of borderless nihilism. Must read for those who wish to understand why Trump is needed, now more than ever. Victor Davis Hanson is a national treasure for risking the backlash that this book will inevitably receive from the establishment.

This is fantastic insight from a brilliant man. If I had my choice of dream dinner guests #1 would be Mark Steyn and #2 would be Dr. Hanson. VDH is a gift from God and I will cherish his written words till my dying day. Also, the opposition to Trump is extremely misguided and false and the facts laid out in this book prove it. If you care about facts above feelings please read this book.

Hilarious! Really top-notch "reporting." If we weren't actually living this nightmare of the president who lost the popular vote by a landslide this would be great satire. Unfortunately, we are left with the decline and fall of American civilization. Woefully one sided and fast and loose with the facts-just like it's subject.

Dr. Hanson is a great writer, serious and informative. This is the most neutral book about Trump I've read. Facts are the most important things.

Many times when you're looking at a problem, you have to back away, distance yourself, be able to look at it from a different perspective. That's what I think Victor Davis Hanson did in explaining objectively how this outsider Trump with no political experience or backing, even with the polls on the day of the election, pointing to his loss, won the 2016 election. He gave the people what they were looking for. He told them what they wanted to hear. He put his money, not campaign or PAC money, where his mouth is. He spoke his way into office. Yes, he might seem crazy, as far as politicians go. He might be arrogant. He might be politically incorrect. He might not be what many people think fits the Office. But his accomplishments thus far, the successes he has achieved, are the same as the things he told his followers he was campaigning for.

I notice all the one-star reviews were posted the minute this book was released. So all the Trump haters were the first to buy this book, quickly read it, and then post their hate-filled opinions? Fake news.
I love VDH, the best contributor at National Review and a wonderful professor from CSU Fresno. This book is a very calming read and cuts through the B.S. constantly blasted on TV.

Hanson is a brilliant observer who writes with the long view of politics and government of a classical historian to put the Trump Revolution into perspective. He explains how it happened and what it means, Get the book and share it with everyone that you know.
I’ve read all of Hanson’s work and they do not disappoint -he wrote a book (Mexiformia) years before anyone else noticed we didn’t have as much as a fence along much of our border.

In "The Case for Trump", Victor Davis Hanson sets out to explain why Donald Trump won the 2016 election and why his critics despise, rather than just oppose, him. Hanson's argument is that Trump effectively established himself as an "abject outsider" that challenged the agendas and assumptions of the political establishment, regardless of party affiliation.
Hanson lays out an argument that "explores the nature of a divided country", exposes the "anemic alternatives" in the Republican primary and general election, "examines the larger themes that framed his political agenda", and assesses the volatility of his Presidency. After reading this book, I found Hanson's argument to be well-analyzed and measured. He does not hide from the arguments of the President's critics. He acknowledges "Trump's sins", and addresses why they did not factor more heavily in the election. In a world where so much of our political commentary is sensationalized, I found Hanson's book to be refreshing. Hanson is a Trump supporter and acknowledges as much in the Preface. Many readers may not be convinced by Hanson's argument, which is understandable, but it is an effective argument nonetheless. I found this book to be the most well-though out, measured argument for what happened in 2016 and why Trump's message resonated with so many Americans. I think this is a most worthwhile read, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to have a better understanding of why President Trump rallies the support that he does.

Trump Season One
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 16, 2019Verified Purchase
As a resident of Britain i’ve been watching events in US with a mixture of horror and hilarity.
VDH has been one of my favourite columnist for some time. He seems to be one of the very few writers able to navigate his way through the labyrinth of American politics objectively.
Like much of his work this book will be revisited as an accurate account of this period in US history.
I’m looking forward to Season Two and the final analysis.
PS My Advice to all politicians is to ditch your expensive, know nothing Special Advisors and start listening to VDH

One of the best books I have ever read - Its a 'Must Read'
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 19, 2020Verified Purchase
In my life, of over 60 years I have read many hundreds of books. I would put this one in my top three. I mean it.
Why so good?
1. Dr Hanson is an intelligent, insightful and reflective academic. (There are fewer and fewer of those these days)
This book draws on many sources of fact to comprehend and analyse. This make the subsequent synthesis and evaluation both authoritative and checkable.
2. The author draws on ancient history, literature and recent history to create a narrative that sets the striking improvements Trump has created and the evil he faces from the 'Swamp' in a clearly understandable manner.
3. Anyone interested in the necessity to have disrupters who challenge anti-democratic charlatans and cheats such as; the Obamas, Clintons, Bush, McCain, hard left media MSNBC, CBS, BBC, CNN, ITV .... et al and the now-communist-leaning US Democratic Party will get a more comprehensive understanding of how to bebunk their attacks on democracy.
This is a well balanced, well written authoritative account of why the free world needs a Donald J Trump.
(I also thoroughly recommend 'The Politics of Corruption' by Peter Schweizer. )

A new perspective on Trump
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 24, 2019Verified Purchase
I am used to hear of how dangerous and crazy Trump is. Hanson offers a new perspective on this president. He sees him as a tool for the Republican party - a kind of tough guy vigilante like Dirty Harry who gets the job done. I am not totally convinced he is a good thing for USA but I got a more nuanced view on him after reading this book. The book is most entertaining when it describes the bad campaign the Hillary Clinton had and the hysterical and agressive reactions after Trump won the election. An interesting story. However, I think he wrote it to early. Hansen is a historian and he could have waited untli his presidency is over. I predict that "The case for Trump" soon will get old because everything is changing so fast.

In the same way we meet remainers who have never met a leaver and cannot understand why they might not come to the same obvious conclusion as they do; this is for those who cannot see the other side of the Trump debate. Either you assume half of the US population are stupid and racist (or "deplorable" as Clinton said) or there might be something you missed. This book was enlightening, but the writer is not a cheerleader for Trump. He makes no serious attempt to evaluate his motives or character, but simply to review his performance and appeal in contrast to his opponents.

Want to make up your own mind about Trump! Read this,

Due to a severe lack of critical thinking and rational traditional journalistic analysis by the MSM on many subjects, individual research is unfortunately required.
If you're fed up of being told what you should believe about Donald J. Trump's presidency and would like to make up your own mind then read this book. You might be surprised what you find out. He ain't all bad ...
A great read, written by a brilliant historian.
