- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2023This is a great book! It is so complete and provides a good roadmap for putting all of your life in order I would recommend that both the person wanting to organize and the person designated as executor read this book. There is so much more to take care of besides a Will, Medical End of Life Instructions, financial documents, etc. Not only do you need these but someone needs to know where they are located, and who manages them (attorneys, financial advisors, name of bank, insurance company, etc. Then there is all the other stuff that needs to be taken care of: monthly bills, subscriptions, heirlooms, artwork, furniture, household items. clothing to dispose of, and on and on. Digital items need passwords or codes for locking or unlocking computers and iPhones, for online accounts and especially with a credit card attached to them. Legal papers, home mortgage, Title for Cars, etc. I haven't even mentioned the garage. To think of every item in your home that will need to be dealt with in some manner after your death is overwhelming. This book breaks it down into manageable pieces and gives suggestions on how to make it easier. To stay sane, Buy the Book, Read the Book, take a deep breath and relax. You will love this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2022First let me start by saying, I cannot believe that this book got a 2 star rating from someone criticizing that the authors rely heavily on the assumption that the reader uses a smartphone. In 2022, it's hard to find a person who does NOT use a smart phone- including the elderly.
When my stepfather passed away a few years ago, one of the biggest issues we ran into in handling his affairs was that we did not know all his passwords/accounts- including his phone. As a matter of fact, we were forced to get him a new phone just months before his passing, for that brief time, due to getting locked out of another in his newly demented state. Also now, three years after his passing, my mother and I were shocked to discover (via "recommended friends") that he even had an Instagram account.
All of that to say- the phone is the epicenter of planning. In addition to getting this book (& possibly using EverPlans or something similar), I'd make sure to back up and regularly protect the photos/notes/etc, on your phone/your loved ones. Also, to put some type of reference to your plans somewhere in your notes as well, for a backup. But you'll learn things such as this from the book.
You will sleep better knowing your affairs are in order, and it's never too early to start. If you are someone who even has pets, and God forbid, are in an accident in your car while living alone, will someone be aware that you have animals at home who need to be tended to? There are SO many things to think of to cover. This book is VERY thorough, has a lot of the legal info that you need/will save you time. Again I mention Everplans- I've not personally filled out my information on that account despite the fact I have signed up there (& was offered a promotion of a free year by buying this book, which seemed like a good deal)- Between the book, Everplans, chatting with friends + family.. it just seems like you can't go wrong.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2021Good for those that have no starting point.
Should spark you to plan ahead.
It could be boring to most somewhat organized people but to others a good read if comprehended.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2024This book was clearly written. After my husband died, I thought that I had taken care of everything for when I pass away. This book brought up other things that I had not thought about. Also, explain in easy to understand terms a lot of things that I wasn't sure of. I bought a copy for everyone in my family!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023I liked that the book hit on each area in your life to review what you could do to make it easier for your loved ones if you pass away. It will be that practical guide for them to find all your documents, etc. to know what your wishes are after you pass. It deals from documents to bank accounts, taxes, possessions, etc. and what you would like to have happen. It's not a subject that most people like to deal with, but it is an eventuality and most people want to help to make it easier for their family. Great guide.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2020There are certain things in life you need to experience to really understand it. Like the grief you feel when you lose a loved one. It's unavoidable and nothing can help eliminate the pain. What makes it even worse is at those lowest moments you're forced to make complicated and expensive decisions -- or have to become Nancy Drew to piece a person's life together -- when all you want to do is hide under a blanket and get to the other side where you feel almost normal again. This book allows you to do just that and it covers EVERYTHING. It is a masterclass in preparation, and done in a way that makes it feel doable. It doesn't get bogged down in legal-speak, explains exactly what you need to do and why you need to it, and empowers you to get it done. I also appreciated the tone and humor, which made it feel like a close knowledgable friend was guiding me along. If you're an adult and have anyone or thing (like a pet or a charity) relying on you, this is required reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2023I thought I knew how to prepare for my demise (77 yrs old). Wow, was I off the mark after engaging in the book. Things that I basically control and/or have knowledge of economically or physically... my wife had no clue how to operate or find. The book created an organizational scheme for her ( and executor of will) to discover.
Very good, and useful reference.

*happygeek*Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 21, 20225.0 out of 5 stars A subject that is increasingly becoming essential even if most people don't realise it yet
What happens to all your digital stuff when you die? It's not a subject most people want to think about, but it's essential to plan ahead when most of our finances and even such things as photo collections are locked away in different accounts with different login credentials and so on. What this book does so well that some others don't, is work through everything in a logical, straightforward and friendly way. You can take it at your own pace but by the end you will have a viable plan for making dealing with yo9ur death easier for those you leave behind. Buy it, read it, implement it.
J. ChesterReviewed in the United Kingdom on December 1, 20225.0 out of 5 stars Very useful with lots of brilliant ideas.
I am living with ovarian cancer so needed to put my affairs in order. I have already done all the obvious things but this book has helped and encouraged me to work on all aspects of my life. I am enjoying doing this.
